I have heard of some engine fires costing upwards of $20,000 to repair all the damage.

sounds like you might be talking about my fd for sale. i am definitely not shady, i just dont have a digital camera of my own, so the pictures took a little while to get online.

just fyi, i do have some pics of the engine bay in that thread, you just need to scroll further down for the link, since i took the pictures after i posted the initial thread. here is a link to some engine bay shots, so you dont have to search through it.

as far as repairing the car goes, a few mechanics and tuner shop guys out here have come to check out the car at the storage yard where it is right now. they say that a $3k front clip from a wrecker yard will have everything you need to get the car back on the road, plus you will have a lot of spare parts that you can part out and make some money off of or use to build up yourself (the engine core, for example. oh, and btw, the engine did NOT overheat during the fire, so the water jacket/o rings should still be okay.). most of the stuff you will need to replace is just the electronic plastic stuff under the hood, along with all the intercooler/intake piping. if you are planning to build up a project with single turbo and upgraded intercooler, this would be the perfect car to start with.

let me know if you have any more questions. i would be glad to help.

Engine fires are a bad bad thing to fix unless you have a donor clip. In the case of an FD it may be a good oportunity to convert to an LT1 or the like.
