my hood latch actually didnt lock for a while. during this time the hood flew up @ 140 kms.

since, i have removed the spring that opens the hood. 2 people are needed to open it now.

try having some1 hold the lever while you get your fingers in the gaps at the front and lever the hood up..

You probably broke the cable. Somone posted here about 1.5 months ago on the same subject. See if you can find it. He explains what was required to release the latch.
-Side note: Man, this makes me want to go and replace my cable before this happens to me!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Rion..

this is David....Why don't you come over this weekend and we can try to open your hood. Saturday works for me, but call me today and let me know. Also, do a search for user rynberg, he had the problem a few months ago and had a temporary fix and solution to open the hood. His plastic latch release broke where it connects to the cable.

Yep, my hood cable broke at the latch. Rion, where do you live? I still have my "hood opening kit" lying around...

You can look for my post though, I followed DamonB's advice:

I took an old thin mousepad and folded it around a flat head screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver between the hood and bumper about a foot off center (to driver's side). Gently pry up as far as you can, you will probably damage the rubber lining of the bumper slightly. Once you've got the hood pried up a bit, shine a flashlight at the latch. You should be able to see if the cable is caught or broke. If it is broke, you will need a stiff wire like a coat hanger. Bend it so it is straight for several inches with a 90 degree bend at the end. The bent part should only be 1/4-3/8" or it will be too long. Feed it into the slot on the side of the latch and play around a bit. It doesn't take a lot of force to get it to release.

Here's where the real fun begins. Once I got the hood open, I had to rig something temporary to be able to open the hood again. I used some stiff wire and made a loop through the latch release. I used enough wire that I had a couple of inches hanging out between the bumper and hood. This task took me much longer than actually getting the hood open as looping the stiff wire I had through the latch was not easy.

Good luck and PM me if you need any help.

Don't laugh, but I had to do it again last weekend. I somehow managed to lock my keys in the car with it running after I had locked my front door. House keys now locked inside running car along with wallet and cell phone. DOH!

Called a locksmith and he said he would be there within the hour. I didn't want the car to idle that whole time because what if god forbid I got a coolant leak? (I had just wired a temp gauge the night before). Since I was on my way to the track I did have my tools and popped the hood open by stealing a piece of wire from my umbrella. I then pulled the circuit relay to shut the motor down. Popping the hood was mush easier the second time around

the same thing happened to my hood a while back. mine just let go from the latch under the steering wheel however, so i just reached behind the latch and pulled the cable itself. it took some tugging, but the hood finally popped open. once i knew how to open it i just bought a new cable and re-attatched it. i dont know where yours broke, but i hope this helps.

LOL!

Your scenario is exactly why I carry my house keys separately from the car keys!

Yeah, I hope I don't have to do it again. This is not something I want to get practice with....

BTW, thanks again for the advice last time.
