Home depot boost controller with bolt-ons?

Living in Indiana means that the first thing everyone does is rip out the cats. Not having to pass emissions is great. So, I've heard that the biggest issue with going with a full exhaust on an FD is boost creep. Would the home depot boost controller be able to make running a full exhaust safe without an upgraded ECU?

You've asked the question that I was just gonna ask I just put in a midpipe, getting boost spikes to 12-13 psi, and wondering if the homedepot kit will help me. Somehow I doubt it.

I guess I should have searched before saying anything.

I have a question about using a restrictor plate... If I put in mp to open up the exhaust, and then put in a restrictor plate to restrict the exhaust and eliminate boost creep, what the point of even using a midpipe? Besides the smelly exhaust

Sorry, I mistyped creep instead of spike... I plan to still run at stock boost as I will have a stock ECU, but the home depot controller should be able to keep me right at that stock boost, correct?

^what he said

Yes, you can turn it down. I would only put the control **** in the ashtray if you have very good self control.

I thought boost creep was caused by the wastegate, when being all the way open, not being large enough to vent all the excess exhaust. How would the home depot mod fix this? I guess it's worth a shot, though.

if you are gettign boost creep, not to be mistaken with boost spike, boost creep is when you boost slowly keeps climbing as you are on the throttle all the way. boost spike occurs when the wastegate doesnt open fast enouf or early enouf to let the some of the NOW free flowing exhasut gasses out and will cause a turbine to spool up to a higher psi and as the wastegate opens all teh way the boost wwill drop. NOW if you are gettign boost creep there is no way to get rid of it other then portign the wastegate or gettign your exhasut to be less restrictive by puttignteh cat back on. if you are boost spiking u can play with with teh home depot boost controller and try out diffrent settigns seeign if the wastegate can be properly operated with the mods you have. it is hard to control boost on a modifed car with stock twins. good luck
