hmm, is this a bad sign?

Okay, so I was coming home from school at about 9pm and this guy that I go to school with has a pretty nice G35 coupe with the dealer aero package and as far as I know, thats it. Well he's got his girl in the passenger seat and he starts showin off by accelerating beside me in traffic. And at first I was like ok whatever, but then I decided to see how quick these cars are and so i was liek what the hell. We do this for a bit until we get to this perfect stretch of 40mph road and he guns it. I proceed to follow and before I know it, I'm goin 100 in 3rd in a 40 zone. Anyways, 2 things I wanted to say. 1) Those cars are a lot faster than I thought. I was behind him the whole time but I could never actually pass him. I mean we werent going exactly straight and there were other cars but still. 2) I get home and park and keep the car runnin, cuz I definitely needed to cool the turbos down. So I let the car run for about 8 minutes and I can still see a red reflection on the concrete below it. i can only assume this is the turbos. Can they get red hot that quick, and do they saty that way until you turn the engine off? I mean I let them cool for 8 minutes, but they were still red. Does this mean I should just not run it hard like that in the future? thats a bummer.

Wow, you really should've beat that guy too if he was stock. You might want to be concerned with the turbos though, mine have never done that, even after some jaunts up to 175mph+.

Umm, they should not get that hot. Sounds like you have a clogged cat like I had. You should have pulled on that guy. But, you won't be getting full boost with a clogged cat.

downpipe, the downpipes have been known to glow red hot after a hard run even on a perfectly working exhaust. its just a "turbo" thing to do.

with the mods you have listed you should definatly been able to pull on him. glowing exhaust or turbos can be normal after a hard run, but you should have your cat checked out. as posted above, it could be clogged. if it is go with a high flow cat!

Ah, you guys might be right, it might have been the downpipe. Well what i meant when I said red reflection was just that. Looking at the car dead on on the left side (where the turbos are) I looked down thru the engine and I could see a red glimmer on the concrete below. I looked on the right side and saw nothing, so I assumed it was the turbos since they were unilateral. As far as boosting, I was pullin 12 hard, bad for them I know, I really need to get a pill or boost controller. Okay, thanks for the info. I'll try and get that cat checked out.

If you still have a 'cat' in your car its probably getting melted or blocked off.
That would explain why you dont have enough power to beat a car you really should smoke.
Also, get a boost gauge if you dont already.
Most likely your boost is down if your exhaust flow is restricted.

I do have a boost gauge, and my boost is running fine. Let me rephrase what happened. We weren't at a stand still taking off. He was in front of me and he turned R on this street and gunned it. So, I was chasing him. And because the street was kind of busy we had to brake once and change lanes twice. Soo, I was behind him the entire time, I'm hoping that given enough time and opportunity, I would have passed him. I'm definitely getting the cat checked out though.

but still a stock G35 runs 0-60 in low 5's. Our car runs that stock as well, with your mods you should have crushed him.

A hard driven G35C will run a little slower than a 350Z so even a stock FD should've beat him. A modded one should've raped him hardcore. I'd be a tiny bit concerned but hopefully the engine and turbos are fine and its just the cat or something that can be upgraded without a big deal.

I wouldn't say one with a S/C and supporting mods is painfully slow but the new Japanese sports cars fail to match their predecessors so it makes the new ones look bad.
