HKS Twin power broke/toast?

I just changed my plugs as they were getting a little old/chewed up (about 2 years old) and everything was fine and the car pulled as good as it ever has. Then about 2 weeks later I notice some igintion breakup in the mid and upper rpm range at full boost. I take a look at my HKS twin power and notice the LED is no longer illuminated so I figure that might be the problem.

My question is, is there any way to test for sure? Has anyone else experienced the Twin power going out? I don't seem to have trouble on low boost (GT35R @12psi), but on high boost (15-16psi) it's pretty much horrible. Hope I don't need another Twin Power. Thanks

Jerry

Ground wire looks fine. I could disconnect it and run it straight to the battery to confirm, but the bolt isn't loose so I figured it's good.

you could try without the twin power to see if your problem persists, it should act the same if the twin power is doing nothing.
a bad coil would also cause ignition break-up, but not seeing the light on the twin power is suspicious.

Search the forum and you will see pics of Twin Powers that failed.

Some have black goo that is leaking out. There's a big capacitor in that box.

Q: Is your twin power mounted on isolaters (rubber sandwich mounts or similar) or is it bolted solidly to the car?

I had it bolted solidly to the car, behind the cruise (driver-side) on the firewall. I've been searching and it seems that there are more people with HKS twinpower failures than I thought there were. If this thing is fried I might start looking at something else to replace it. Thanks

Is it normal to hear a very faint buzzing/static noise coming from the twin power box?

jdmfantasy, I never heard any sort of faint buzzing/static noise comming from mine. Doesn't sound normal to me. Does it still seem to work/feel the same?

To make matters even more complex for me, I took a look at it a little while ago and now it looks like the LED is faintly on. So I take the car for a spin and at first everything feels fine and normal. Then after about 10 minutes it's back to the ignition breakup. I pull over, pop the hood and now the LED is off. Has anyone had intermitten problems with twin power like this?

try cleaning the electrical contacts with some contact cleaner and maybe using some sandpaper on the ground?

I couldn't tell you...I've just completed an engine swap, so this will be my first time using the twin power ignition. I'm not having luck starting the car (ignition problem somewhere), so I'm trying to pin-point my gremlin...one thing at a time

Mine is mounted on the cruise control bracket.

The mounts are all rubber isolated.

I had been looking around for a better place to mount it (mine was solidly bolted to the left side shock tower) and it occurred to me that the cruise bracket would be a great spot.

Obviously only works if cruise control has been removed.

Fortunately I still had the bracket.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised that none of those that viewed this thread have seen the twin power just shut off, come back on and then shut off again. I've looked at all the obvious stuff like connections, I guess I'll look to give HKS a call.

jdmfantasy, good luck with problems from that engine swap, I know personally how that feels. You'll feel good about it when it's done, like a sense of accomplishment.
