Cool HKS Ti 4" exhaust---remotely streetable?

I am considering this exhaust b/c I can pick it up locally for a good price, and because I have had my current setup for a while and am looking for a change. Also, my FD is a weekend car at this point and nowhere near a daily driver.

With a dp, magnaflow res mp, and my pfs catback, the sound level is great for the street. Loud when you want it to be, but not too bad at idle and around town.

Magnaflow makes a 4" inlet/outlet race muffler that is the same size as the muffler in my current midpipe, so I am pondering running the HKS with this same muffler in the mid section. I am thinking it won't be much louder than my current setup, but I may be off base.

I have watched the vid on hks usa numerous times, and the noise seems ok at idle and cruise, although that vid may be misleading.

Second variable is boost creep. I have a ported w/g for my BNRs, and creep to 13 psi on a warm day, 15 on a cold day. For my current setup it's not an issue. With this new exhaust, I am wondering if the creep will be much more pronounced.

I have no idea if I will get any concrete answers to these 2 questions (noise and creep) but thought I would throw it out there. I searched and found a bunch of 'it's really loud' responses, but I am looking for some better/more recent firsthand info.

Don't know about the exhaust but, I'm glad that you mentioned boost creep with the ported BNRs. From what I've seen from people posting, I thought that boost creep was not an issue with the BNRs, particularly not at your indicated apparent low boost levels. You must be running not more than 12 psi if you indicate a creep "to 13 & 15".

Good info and thanks for it. I've been thinking about going BNR when my rebuild turbos blow up on me (any moment or years away???) and would probably now request the extra large wg porting, as offered by Bryan.

I would say without a doubt your creep will increase with a more free flowing exhaust. 4" is serious. Of course there are many ways to battle this. If you use something like Albert, you battle both noise and creep with one solution.

I'm running a 4" downpipe, then I had a custom midpipe built that tapers into a 3" Magnaflow Ti exhuast. The sound is very low and deep at idle, yet not too loud. You might want to consider the Magnaflow Ti, I am very impressed! It sounds way better then the HKS, but then again it's not a full 4" exhuast.

But when the t-88 comes alive, the noise is a different story, LOL

Rich,
The HKS is LOUD, but anything thats 4" is going to be loud. You have to give to get! I have the 4" Greddy Power Extreme that Ari imports from Japan. It comes with a resonated section and is still pretty loud. I would get it if I were you. The HKS and Greddy are both very nice. You see a nice power gain too.

I have the Apexi Gt Spec w/ Apexi 4in downpipe, and 3.5in dynamax midpipe. It's EXTREAMLY loud.

And boost creep is serious. I have the apexi 50mm external wastegate and It will still creep to over 20psi. My wastegate has a 15psi spring.

One quick comment: The HKS Ti is a 4" Turbo back (based on what I have read) and not cat-back, correct? In that case it would take some customizing to use a resonated midpipe... Also, I am running the HKS HiPower with a full 3" exhaust and it's somewhat loud and basically the same muffler, but smaller. For me the noise is not an issue and I was expecting a much louder car than what I got...

Negative, the HKS Ti is a center section and a catback section. It tapers to a 3inch flange to meet a 3 inch downpipe of your choosing.

All these comments have me leaning toward not messing with it. I made pretty good power with my current setup, and the noise is definitely loud when I want it to be and (kinda) quiet when I want it to be.

Glad to see someone else still using the PFS cat-back. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best of the bunch. I've bought the greddy TI and couldn't stand the angled exit for the can and also the Blitz SS cat-back. Stayed with the PFS unit for the reason Rich stated as well.

Rich,
I wouldnt be surprised if you creeped to 15 to 16 #s after a 4" exhaust. It dosent sound like yuour wastegate was ported all that much.

What are you basing that on? creep with the BNRs is more pronounced than creep with stock twins. I have no reason to run less than 15 psi, so it hasn't been an issue for me.

The HKS titanium is loud as hell. Local car here with it and gives me a headache if Im within 1 mile of it. Plus the cops hate it.

^^realized this sounded kinda harsh. bryan ported my w/g to 'normal' specs. I will have to turn off the profec b (7 psi) and make some 2nd/3rd gear redline pulls to check the boost I'm seeing.
