HKS downpipe fitment.......

So I finally got a dp and it's the HKS mild steel one. Looks nice n all, and I would like to know if anyone has had any problems installing this piece??

Also I was told that the SS versions will heat up more than the mild steel ones?

Thanks.

-Dan

BTW, if you do have the HKS mild steel dp, what diff did it make?

I had the HKS unit on my first FD, It fit really well(better than the Bonez unit on my second one) The only bad thing about mild steel is it will rust over time.

any DP will give ya a little more boost, And make you actually hear the turbos spooling. but most importantly, it will decrease your underhood temps.

oakridge - Thanks for the feedback, however since it's mildsteel, I will probably buy some thermal wraps and wrap up that bad boy, hopefully that'll prevent it from rusting.

Also how much will it cost to have it jet hot coated? And what types of shops can perform job like that?

Thanks.

the hks is coated and will not rust... mild steel holds higher temps than stainless and the pitment is perfect... i have it on my car and think it sux... it looks just like they cut the stock DP and welded on 3inpipe in its place.

I am using the HKS DP. I had some problems but I was told by HKS that I probably bought a black market version with flaws. I don't know if it's true and I can't take it off and send it back.

I had problems with one of the studs and nuts but as it turns out, my nut & stud are not stock so I can not say if the stock nut would have fit since it's not as wide but there was no way to fit a socket over it so probably not.

The other problem I had was a gap between the flange and manifold that made an exhaust leak.

There is no SS HKS DP, only mild steel. Supposedly mild steel flexes/expands more and is why Pettit uses mild steel flanges on their SS DP. The HKS DP comes heat coated which will prevent rust and help hold in the heat.

These questions have been answered before:
Thermal wrap is not a good idea. It does not protect the inside and can retain moisture.
Performance coatings in WA will be less shipping cost, since it closer to you than MS. 2k degree is $63 for coating and $20-$40 for shipping.
