highway cloud of smoke

Hey!

While driving on the highway i ended up leaving a huge cloud of white smoke behind me for 2 seconds, the car wouldnt rev higher than 3-4k rpm (Car wouldnt boost). Has this happened to anyone? The idle was kind of rough and the car was a bit hard to start afterwards

May it be a failed apex / side seal or is it the turbo that has gone bad? I havent had the time to compression test the car yet and wont have the time untill next month so i though id ask here first.

White smoke is usually coolant, if it is coolant it could smell sweet.
What were you doing before the smoke showed up? Passing someone, driving hard under boost, ect?.
I don't think it would be an apex or side seal, side seal would leave behind blue smoke i would think, apex seal would make it hard to start but again i don't see how it would cause white smoke.
Could be a coolant o ring, hopefully someone that has had this happen or know someone who has will chime in and we can both learn something

Car was under boost when this happened, lately the car would be hard to start once it was hot as well

Sounds like a blown coolant seal.
Do you have a (aftermarket) water temp gauge?

You may want to do a cooling system pressure check.
A loss of pressure during the test will indicate a leak.

If you're due for an oil change anyway, you could also pay close attention to the drain plug as soon as you remove it from the pan. Watch for coolant to come out first. In bad cases of seals leaking coolant can get into the oil. Water will migrate to the bottom of the pan when resting.
