high idle after tstat, fc switch, and tb cleaning

question for you guys. yesterday did a thermostat replacement. and ast elimination (please no arguments on it). well today i noticed my idle was unusually high... like 1500. even if i tap the gas it'll go down then come back up... anyone had anything like this? i never removed the UIM. only the plastic elbow and the intake tubes... Also i did the FC thermoswitch mod for hte fans.

i did however spray carb cleaner all around the throttle bodies and cleaned them up look like new compared to before. carboned up. when i started the car the first time i was hard. once i got it it make a big *** puff of smoke... after about a min it stopped and never done it again so i figured it was cuz of the carb cleaner. wondering if i should just lower the idle.... or if there's somethign else i should look at.

could the carb/tb cleaner made that much of a diff? thanks!

It's not unusual for your idle to go up after cleaning out the TB, but to 1500 sounds high. I would make sure your TPS is within spec then adjust the idle adjusting screw to the desired idle.

You've probably already checked this, but... Is it possible you dislodged a vacuum hose, etc? That would be my guess for the most obvious cause of a high idle.

True, vacuum leak is also a cause of high idle, however I think it is a high fluctuating/surging idle not a steady high idle. I could be wrong on that one.

Hold off adjusting any screws because that just masks the high idle symptom of another problem.

Make sure the wax rod on the warm up cam disengages. You can also pull vac hoses one by one from the manifold and cap off the nipples to see if you can trace a vacuum leak. You can disconnect the ISC, but if the ISC is stuck open that won't really help. You can put your thumb over the ISC bypass in the lower left hand side trottle body to see is if its open.

A vacuum leak can also be a steady high idle.

Good luck.
