You should probably educate yourself a bit before you start asking specific questions, it will help you understand more of what you see in this forum.

There's a sticky for the FAQ at the top of the messages list in the 3rd gen section.

As for my first mod, it was a downpipe, many, many $$ ago.

If the first mod you want to do is a BOV, this may not be the car for you.

actually, it's not the forum for ya either.

haha insurance is a good idea, i agree with the other guys you should bereading up on things before you do anything, I have a lotta friends buying turbocharged cars thinking OHH IWANT A BOV..... FAST AND THE FURIOUS...... YEAH!!!! Not so much....think about it.... what you wanna do, no need to rush into dumping money on pointless crap, the car is nice the way it is, but you can always make it better(or worse) and my advice is a tune, whether it be at a shop, power fc, there is always more to gain from a factory built vehicle

don't get all butt hurt, i simply just asked HOW HARD is it to add it not "is this forum for me?" and i did ask what mods to get. It is a rotary engine I'm converting from a piston to rotary. I admit it, i don't know jack about rotary and how to make a rotary car go faster. People say you attitude determines your altitude, well you're low as a mother ******, maybe socializing in real life might bring you some friends. Maybe instead of staying on here and being a dick, step outside your door take a deep breath and think " can i not be an ******* for a bit?"

thank you for the advice. I don't want the car just because of the fact of the blow off valve. I just wanted to see if it's hard to add one. I had a turbo EK and it wasn't really hard. Then again i don't know jack about rotary engines. I just know that their apex seals tends to wear out around 60-80k miles and 9k rpm = 3.2k rpm on piston. YEEE FAST N DE FERIUS!!!!!! ZOOM ZOOM PSSHHH PSSSHHHH!!!!

Well, if you want to make the car go faster then why are you asking about an aftermarket BOV?? If you like the whooooosh sound just disconnect it from the stock airbox. As far as your first mods, make it reliable. I suggest the following;

Downpipe
Aftermarket radiator (Fluidyne, Koyo)
Pettit AST, or something similar
Re-do all the coolant lines and vacuum lines
Miata/FC thermoswitch

Keep the boost at 10 psi on the stock ecu to keep it safe. When you have a power fc get a nice tune at 13psi-ish and have some fun.

I asked about the BOV because my friend has a hks ssqv for 75 (partially used) and it retails for 250. I just thought it might be a good deal since I'm getting over 50% off.

Buy it, that is a deal. However, unless it's a bov "kit" specifically for the Fd it will not work so easily. If it's universal, you'll have to buy a flange and have it welded onto an intercooler pipe. If it's a kit for the FD, then it literally takes less than 5 minutes to put on. It will simply replace the factory bov, sliding right onto the hose the factory one sits in.

Do a serach on blow-off valves, you'll find all the information you need. If you can't find anything there, check for online workshop manuals (free download). It's a very simple modification.

About the 3rd Gen (including different models, recalls, etc): http://www.marx7.org/infocenter/faqs/3rd_faq_main.html

FAQs (including reliability mods): https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/. Read them. All.

You'll find (very quickly, I might add) that this forum is NOT newbie-friendly. Post little, read a lot. There's at MINIMUM 7 years of info on this forum, and many links to external websites with info dating back as far as the mid '90s. So chances are your question has been asked before - sometimes HUNDREDS of times before. So search my friend, and search well.

Oh and keep your flame suit handy; on here, you'll prob need it

I've been saying it for YEARS...we really need to start archiving this stuff. We've lost sooo much, especially *invaluable* writeups w/ pics. And the few writeups that still remain...have no pics lol. If we don't get the ball rolling on this, there will be nothing left to archive but "take it to a rotary specialist..."

+1

why does everyone want to "add" a BOV...haha there are already 2 (if you count the CRV...). i think what the kid means is that he wants to "replace" the stock bov...

either way, that is one of the least important mods for a near stock FD. my car is pretty modded now and i'm still running the stock BOV. works fine for me

But I'll happily admit, I LOVE the sound of my HKS BOV going off

Omg I miss my car...
