I have known some japanese people and they have told me "Jap" is a racist slur against Japanese people. And as someone else said, in the WWII they called the Japanese "Japs" I just think its tacky.

and if youre bothered so much by what people have said, sounds like you need to get the titty out of your mouth

I had a 4 paragraph reply written to Mild7 and 7sweetie, but what would have been the use. Nothing would have been accomplished. We obviously disagree. I'll try and refrain from using so-called racial slurs on the forum to prevent further squals. Let's leave it at that.

Well anyways, you guys know that I did not mean it as a racist remark, and I apologize to anyone that may have possibly been offended by it.

Calling a Japanese person a Jap is racist...

The Americans who came up with that word during the War intented to identify the Japanese in a negative manner and with racist thoughts in mind ...

the Japanese people who live in Japan wouldn't have a clue regarding the racist implications behind the word Jap since they've never lived here. But say it to those who were in the camps and they'll surely be offended. Also the majority of them don't even speak English (don't argue, I've been there) and they simply don't understand the American culture enough to understand all the slangs used here.

For those of you who think that Jap is not a racist word need to wake up and look from the Japanese-American peoples' perspective since that word was targeted against them.

How come nobody said "nip" yet?

Please quote your sources for this. Frankly, it is a lot easier to say than "Japanese" all the time.

I think that is also the source of "Nip", from Nippon. Although I don't know if the Japanese still referred to their country as Nippon then, I think they did. 1 syllable beats 3 everytime.

I love it when people look for racism everywhere, and see it when it just isn't there.

I think I will stop using that term when the Japanese stop using the term "gaijin" (sp??)...

Political Correctness is the hobgoblin of small minds and sheep. It always has been and always will be.
