Help, worn clutch???

I have a 94FD with only 39,000 miles on it. I am pretty sure the previous owner was easy on it. I only have a poor man's intake for mods. I have noticed over the last couple months while autocrossing (with street tires) that I can not shift hard into 2nd gear while in full boost without roasting the clutch. It usually happens when I burn out to redline in 1st gear and dump to second hard. The RPM's will jump and the tires will stop spinning. The telltale metal smell comes next.

Is it normal to have this happen on the stock clutch? Am I not supposed to shift hard to second while in full boost. During an autocross start, it is kind of important to shift quickly although I try to keep my burnouts in 1st to a minimum.

I am on a shoestring autocross budget next year, so I don't want to replace it if not necessary.

eh.. you might want to invest in an aftermarket clutch built to handle that kind of stress. stock clutch won't last too long under that pressure.

I'm in the same boat bro. I smoked so much of my stock clutch that it showed up on my last drug test! Either keep the rpm's down, or get ready to pony up for a new perf clutch.

That's what I was afraid of. Of course it is no fun keeping the RPM's down between shifts, so I will have to buy a new clutch to handle the power.

With only 38k miles and moderate driving (with the exception of 1 season autocrossing) should I get a new flywheel or just have this one resurfaced or neither?
