Help/Question With FD VIN Numbers

I was wondering if the FDs have a different letter or number in the VIN number somewhere to tell if it is a Base, R1, Touring, PEP, ETC.

When I read about the options the cars have I think they might (for example) be say a R1 but turns out to be a PEP. (or whatever) If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.

nope

unless mazda built it in the serial number...last 6 digits of the vin....the answer would be no....
but as far as your example of r1 vs pep....you can determine that by year which is the 10th character...p for 93, r for 94, s for 95...as r1s were 93 and pep were 95...
determining model is best told by options...although most are easily reproduced....

The VIN won't tell you the information you're looking for. I've heard of some people calling up Mazda to verify model type but haven't heard of any other methods.
