ok . so oil light went off so i checked the level it smelled like pure gas. ? what the heck does that mean . also when i opened the fill oil cap . smoke came out of it . like not alot but noticeable . what does that meen ? also coolant light is going crazy . tranny reverse gear screwed up in less then a week . i need to know what i should do . ive been gone in china when it arrived and idk what there policy is with returning cars . i need some major help .

unless you have a good rotary shop by you get rid of the car. unless you have some auto skills and understand the fd you will regret the car. more details about the car - mileage, mods, etc...

oil light - was it low on oil? if not did you check the sender.
oil smells like gas is somewhat expected. when was the oil last changed.
coolant light - is it low on coolant. does the car overheat, etc?
tranny - auto/manual? what is screwed up?

Usually a used car is sold as is.
The FD is not a good impulse purchase.

 

however, smoke from the oil filler... sounds like a seal is allowing too much blowby.... if I am even using the proper terminology.

 

the car has 80,4xxx on the body i was told the engine was rebuilt less then 10k ago . the oil level is all shiffty . why would smoke come out the top though ? the coolant level seemed fine . im guessing its the sensor . the tranny is 5spd and reverse crapped out on me within a week of getting the car and i was told the warrenty would cover it. but they didnt so i go refunded the warrenty . i think im going to try to have them take the car back. p.s. isnt it illegal to sell a car to a minor anyways?

Sounds like to me you are not ready for this type of car. Yes, I would say for your sake as well as for the well-being of that FD you need to try and take it back. Although most used car purchases are final. Illegal to sell a car to a minor!!?? Not that I have ever heard of? Why would it be illegal to sell a car to a minor!?

 

No - but a person under 18 will not get financing without a co-signer.

There is no grace period on a car purchase. The car is yours. Not sure why you did not get it checked out before you bought it.

And if your driving skills are anything like your English skills, I'm guessing that you probably fluxored the transmission yourself.

With a used car, it's generally bought *as is*. I seriously doubt you are going to be able to return it. It's called "buyer beware" as you are suppose to do your homework on the car before you fork over the cash.

Post in the Midwest section to see if you can get someone local to take a look at the car for you. If not, either send it to a shop (I believe there are a few not all that far like A-Spec and Banzai) or break out the Factory Service Manual (FSM) and start getting dirty.

I don't know about other states, but SD has a law requiring a dealer to take a used car back within three days of purchase if there are problems with the car that were not known at the time of sale. But I'm guessing you're way past that if Iowa has a similar law. I almost had to raise hell with a dealer when they didn't tell me that the driver side window switch didn't work very well after I had signed the papers. The place they sent me to get the cruise control fixed said they would cover it so I just decided to let it go.

 

im most likely having it taken to a spec because they are very good with fd3s . if its fixable stuff that isnt over 3k to fix ill stick with the car . because im sure im stuck with it .

 

In WA state, you can legally return a car that does not show signs of negligent abuse within 3 business days of the transaction.

 

well its past three days. i was in china when the car arrived at my house . so the three day thing wont work for me

oil in rotarys generally smells like petrol. The way the engine works means the oil gets diluted with fuel hence the petrol smell -- may not be a problem.
Did you check your oil level? was it low? it could just be low hence the oil buzzer going off and perhaps your car was hot/not getting enough oil - explaining the puff of smoke out the oil filler cap? just a guess.
have you checked your coolant also? im assuming you have driven the car as you say you broke reverse within the first week -- did the car overheat/get hot when you drove it?
could be as simple as a coolant leak and low oil.
or low oil causing it to run hot and burn coolant or vise versa.. make sure your fluid levels are correct and are not leaking then you might only have to worry about your reverse gear.

it was the oil light going on on the gauge , it was the coolant buzzer going off but it looked full . it might be a bad sensor? the car never overheated . the reverse just stoped working randomly out of the blue . so idk what caused that something is blocking it from going in to gear

 

It sounds like virtually everything that COULD go wrong with that car is going wrong with the car.

IMHO, you SHOULD take the car back, or at least try, or sell it at a loss. Hell, if someone came by and you GAVE them the car you might save money in the long run. Warning lights going off, your lack of knowledge about the car, the transmission, ****, everything you listed about the car seems to point to HORRIBLE abuse and/or lack of maintenance by a previous owner. If that's the case, NOTHING you listed will be as much of a problem as the eventual rebuild you're going to have to do.

It's nothing personal, since I don't know you from anyone, but it's just my opinion, and the advice I'd give a friend. Nothing on this car will be cheap, and nothing will be easy. Unless you're a completely spoiled brat with parents to dump cash on you (and it'll be a LOT of cash; your turds better be made of 24K gold) save yourself the headache(s) and get into something else.

I used to sell cars at a nissan dealership in Las Vegas and that was the law. I believe it stands in Utah where I'm at now.


The lemon law only applies to vehicles purchased brand new. If a dealership fixes a problem several times on a new vehicle and cannot get it to work properly or get an accurate diagnosis of the issue after several tries they have to supply you with a replacement vehicle (most likely coming out of the manufacturer's pocket).

 

it could even be a coolant hose thats not quite connected properly - like half on and leaking slightly.
Recently i had my coolant buzzer shouting at me - my coolant level was fine but the tube that goes to the bottom of AST had come a bit loose and my coolant system was loosing pressure so the coolant buzzer sounded.
So you could have full coolant but a slight leak causing the buzzer to sound.
Top up / change your oil and see if the oil light turns off...its easy and it could save you alot of money.
I would hate for you to take it to a shop and tell them its having whatever problems only for them to top up your oil- tell you they fixed something and hand you a massive bill because you didnt know any better..forgive me for not having utmost faith in repair shops! but make your its not a simple fix before you go blindly handing out your cheque book!

im going to have it taken to a spec to see the extent of damage etc. compression check. all fluids changed, turbos checked out, injectors cleaned, new plugs, tranny. the list could go on . ill just keep you guys posted with updates daily .

Definitely TOW it to a rotary shop or have some local FD people check it out.
