Exclamation Help Please! Engine not starting!

Hello, I'm new to RX7club I have a 1993 RX7 with a JDM engine and for some reason, the engine doesn't start.

I'm sorry if this gets too detailed but I just need help from you guys, it will be greatly appreciated.

So I got a RX7 five days ago and everything started fine, worked fine, nothing was a problem until the fifth day when I wanted to take the car for a spin, the engine couldn't start, I tried searching the forums, but came to no solution. The issue is when I try to start the engine, the engine starts, for around 2-3 seconds and dies... At some times, the engine idles, but the sound of the engine almost sounds like it's going to die... and it does after 1-2 minutes. I tried de-flooding procedures yet nothing happens... The part is where when I try to start the engine, the engine seems like it is getting no power whatsoever, and the exhaust goes popping once every 2-3 tries at the ignition. There is white smoke comming out of the engine, but very little, and it seems like the white smoke disappears after a while. The smell of the exhaust has a smell of fuel, a little more intense than the average exhaust smell.

I hope someone can help me! I would greatly appreciate it. If you require more information on how the engine is please post. Thanks

Try new plugs. It sounds like it was flooded. One time my car was flooded bad and wouldn't start until I got new plugs then it was fine.

The engine starts and dies, and it idled once at very low RPM's around 600-300rpm fluctuating. And died thanks for your help, though I'll try replacing the plugs as well.

When it starts, can you rev it up and hold the rpms up around 2-3k to see if it clears out and then runs normal.

Yeah, almost exactly how you said it, the car has extremely crappy idle, and then dies. I notice that when the airpump engages the engine immediately dies. When the airpump is not engaged (Even on low rpms) The engine runs on a crappy idle and then a LOT of white smoke comes out, the white smoke doesn't smell anything like coolant (The sweet smell) It smells like burning charcoal to me. Please can anyone help? I tried revving to 3-4k rpms but more and more white smoke.

If you have a check engine light on, then you need to pull the codes. Follow the instructions here http://www.fd3s.net/engine_codes.html, and then report back.

For one the plugs are fouled if the car will start and not hold idle. Also the backfiring while cranking is a dead give away for fouled plugs. Repeat the deflooding procedure except use new plugs this time, dont clean the old ones, just buy new ones. Once the car starts hold the rpms up to about 3k for about 30 seconds, that should get all the extra fuel out of the engine/exhaust. Prepare for lots of smoke and backfiring at first.

CEL could be a lot of things and likely has nothing to do with the way the car is acting, however it could.

Yeah, thanks alot, when I took out the spark plugs, the heads are pretty covered in black, I think I should get new ones I might be running way too rich. But one of the problems is that I noticed when the airpump engages the engine dies down. And when the airpump doesn't engage the engine idles, yet has a really crappy idle speed. Thanks for the help. I'll try with the codes as well.

Thanks everyone for your help. I got the extra exhaust cleared out. And getting plugs tomorrow. I hope it's just the spark plugs not anything to do with a/f mix, or leaks. I got all the smoke and backfiring out. I also tried out the codes, idle sensor was messed, fixed that as well thanks
