there is water in the upper rad hose and this started before koyo. when i take off the rad cap water bubbles out... not ruling out a air pocket in the system but the white smoke scares me

Once the engine is cold, take off the water pump housing filler cap, start the car, look at the the filler neck.. if yo get a big gushing, alot of air bumbles like champain or soda,... then its mostlikey your coolant seals..

Is the smoke blue? Or white? If white.. then most likely coolant. Does it smell sweet? If so.. defenitily coolant.

hope that helps.

Keep bleeding. Search for Lisle for a good cheap tool to bleed the air out of the system or go to the FAQ and follow the links there. The presense of water in the upper rad hose doesn't mean there isn't air in the system.
