They'res a "key" that came with the car (I used to keep mine in the trunk with the jack) It looks like a weird shaped allen wrench that you stick in the opening in front of the sunroof to crank it shut in case of emergency....If you don't have one, find someone locally that does, if not your mazda dealership should have one...I think they are standard for most mazdas.

well i dont have one...i dont know where to put it if i had it...can you tell me where the emergancy crank area is on the sunroof..

however, i have finally closed it...i am 80% sure the problem is the switch...i popped down the interior light and switch board and notcied that the open posistion makes clicking noise when pressing but the forward does not...with the ignition turned to acc i can push the forward and it will not move but if i keep pushing over and over eventually i will feel a short click and the short click is the internalls of the switch engaging i guess cuz after 100 times it finally shut little by little in short bursts...how can i replace this switch..where can i get one?

There's a round plastic piece behind(towards the rear of the car) in the ceiling. Take a flathead screwdriver and unscrew the plastic bit. Inside there will be a crank that takes an allen wrench(if I remember correctly) and you can use that to open and close the sunroof manually.

As for the switch if it's like mine, it's the button that went bad. Take apart the switch and check out the inside of the button. In my case, the plastic ring inside the button gave away on one side so I could only open and not shut the sunroof. The light and switch assembly is about $160 from Ray or you can find on on the board. For now I just removed the black button and use my thumbnail to push or pull the switch to open and close the sunroof.
While you have the switch off, it's not a bad idea to take apart the switch internals and clean off the contacts. Not hard to do.
