Question Help...looking at a car in Somerset, Ky area

I am looking at a 1993 RX-7 in the Somerset, Ky area.

I was wondering if anyone knows the car I am looking at, or would like to help me check it out.

It is the owner of Extreme Audio's car. I am driving down from Cincy to check it out.

It has 112K miles on it, and he say it has the original engine and Turbos....does that sound believable?

Thanks...

Patrick

yeah, it sounds believable and sounds like it's about to blow.

Danger will robinson, danger! :p

If you buy it, make sure to figure in an extra $3K to rebuild in the very near future. It wouldn't be a bad choice if you can get it for under $10K (plus $3K for rebuild = $13K = decent price)

Unhappy Really?

For real? These cars can't go over 100K if well cared for?

The owner before this owner 7-8 (months ago) had a compression check done at the dealer, and the engine was still very strong. The guy is selling this car and his '96 vette to get a new vette.

I was hoping to check the boost, watch for smoke, and check the car out well. However, I thought I could take good care of the car, and get some miles out of it.

This car will be a toy, not a daily driver. If it needs work that is fine, however, I don't want to fork out $3K right off the bat. Also, is there any cheaper way to get the engine fixed if the seals go bad? Like do it yourself?

Thanks,
Patrick

Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I know of only one FD that lasted more than 130K miles. One. ever. (I'm sure there are more, I just haven't heard of them)

Take all the care of it you want, these are just fragile engines when you start adding boost. Most pop right around 100K miles.

It's possible to do a "do it yourself" rebuild.... I think mazdatrix sells kits ( www.mazdatrix.com ) - somewhere in the $1,000 - $1,500 mark.

Again, if he's selling it for cheap, just add $3k to your purchase price and it may be a good deal. If you'd like to comment on how much he's selling it for, we'd be glad to give you a yay or ney.

Ouch!

None have lasted over 130K?

He wants 11K for it...but I think I can get it for substantially less.

What if I get it checked, and the compression and boost are good? Does that mean it isn't going to blow for some time?

Later,
Patrick
