Question Help: Just changed Plugs & Wires - now 4k idle

I just finished changing my spark plugs and wires per the rob robinette method and now I have a 4k rpm idle at startup. When I tap the throttle (hesitantly) it moves higher and stays.

I checked the throttle wires and they are correctly positioned and I am out of ideas.

Can someone suggest what it may be and/or how to troubleshoot the issue???

Many thanks!

Many people have fiddled w/ the tps, you might have accidently messed w/ it.

Noob - here - somehow my cruise control cable was pulling it. Disconnected it. Gonna take the cruise off anyway.

You may have pinched something between the throttle body and the manifold that is letting air leak in, or you have jammed the linkage open alittle . Remove the throttle body and check everthing . The tps being off will not do this , you must have air going in uncontrolled

Yeah that's exactly what I was going to tell you. The cruise cable can fairly easily get pinched by human intervention along the sidewall behind the strut mount in it's path to the TB and that will produce an idle right around 4000. Check that and reconnect it. Why would you take it out? It weighs nothing and it'll save you gas on the interstate.

thx guys for the insight. my idle is about 2900 lower now. idle seems to be running at 1100-1200 now.

i am getting good vacuum -17/-18 (not really sure what that means though) - so hopefully it is b/c the car wasn't really warm. when i drive it tomorrow, i'll be able to check (raining now)

any more insight is welcome
