Those rods require a considerable amount of force to move. Are you sure that you're putting enough force on them? A better way to test them would be to hook up a regulated air source and apply about 10 psi to them and see if they move.

Start the car, let it warm up then have someone else kill it while you are watching those rods. Then have the other person do a KOKO (key on, key off) 6 times and make sure they move everytime.
