I want to remove the circular control on the driver side that controls the power side mirrors. Does it just pop right off? Or do I have to take off the whole panel? I don't want to break anything so I don't want to force it or pull too hard.

You could probably pry it up without removing the door panel, but you'll most likely end up scratching or breaking something. I'd just remove the door panel and pop it out from behind. The door panel is held on by 4 screws, 3 around the outside edges and one below a cover in the door handle pocket.

 

it pops out pretty easily with a knife. Just be careful not to screw up the plastic.
