We need more info to help on the fan problem. What is the highest temperature it got to w/o the fans running? The stock thermoswitch does not switch the fans on until 221F coolant temperature, unless the AC is on, or there is an electrical load. There are ways to get them to come on lower (search for FC thermoswitch), but if your car is stock, they will not come on until that temp.

The high idle could be as simple as a vacuum leak. There are dozens of vacuum hoses on the FD, plus a few relevant gaskets, and a break in any of them will cause a high idle.

Search this forum for "high idle" and "vacuum leak," and you will get lots of hits. Also read the FAQ's - lots of good info there.
