VA Help! FD had been fine...all of a sudden it won't start.

What a day. Hot and muggy - no place for an FD. The irony - my DD's battery had issues so I had to drive the FD to work the last couple of days. It had been driven without incident - long trips, short trips...just been really happy with it. I left work early today to take care of my DD's battery so I don't have to drive the FD in 100 degree+ heat the next few days...stop by a local deli for a meal...come out....turn key...and nothing. Absolutely nothing....no clicking or anything. Almost as if the car alarm's been tripped and the starter was disengaged. I don't hear the fuel pump going or anything. Battery seems fine, all the light monitors light up and the gauges work - except for the oil pressure gauge.

The deli owner said it should be fine there overnight. Regardless, I'm going to head out there to work on it and then have it towed back if I can't get it going. (First time towing with it lowered - any suggestions here?) I tried pulling some fuses earlier but it was impossible in this heat and in my workclothes...and I parked too close to the deli catering truck so I can't really open the door that far. I really don't have time to search so just throwing a line to see if I catch any good advice before heading out there later - once it, and I, cool down.

As always....thanks in advance.

Starter (solenoid) is probably heatsoaked. It does happen.

Just wait til it cools down. It should start.

Could also be the wire going to starter solenoid under the car. Just one crappy plastic covered spade terminal. Mine fell off one time had to push start car and when I got home figured out wire backed off solenoid... Could also be second relay in driver's kick panel I removed and jumpered mine used to have clik clik start prob before now fine every time

I went back yesterday with the knowledge of a possible heatsoaked solenoid and also read about the faulty security relay and quickly made a jumper wire. Thanks for the quick advice. As always, this site is amazing. I was sure it would either start quickly (no) or the jump wire would work....also no. No click or anything.....but I think I know the culprit.

My clutch had been sticking and I've neglected it. There were small bits of broken plastic near my clutch pedal that puzzled me at first and I didn't think much of it. But now I realize it's probably the clutch switch - whatever broke is the indicator to the computer that tells it the clutch is engaged so it can allow ignition. No sound on key turn - just like if you tried to start it without pressing in the clutch.

So I had it towed back...very carefully on a flatbed and he also used wooden planks. (He didn't use it for the rear wheels when laying it back down so my PFS exhaust got scraped a bit. Oh well....I want an RB dual tip anyways.) It pays to have emergency roadside service!

On to Ray......
