Help! Engine won't start.

I left my car untouched for about a week. Last weekend I tried to start it up but the engine won'start. I can hear the starter cranking but that's about it, the engine won't kick. Checked the battery - not it.
Tried push starting the car - not it. I just replaced the plugs and wires a few months ago so I don't think that would be it.
Got a mechanic friend (not too faimiliar with rx7s) to look at it and he said it might be the ignitor - costs about $450 to special order from Autozone.
Before this, I've been noticing for a while (about 1/2 year) that whenever I try to start the car, it takes just a little bit more time to crank the engine before it starts.
Any ideas what could be the culprit?

Are you getting fuel to the motor and have you checked for spark?

for testing the plugs you want to first pull the fuel pump relay so its not getting fuel to the engine while your testing each plug for spark.

Pull one plug out (while its out check to see if its wet), reconnect the plug wire to it and ground out the plug while having some one crank the motor for a sec to see if it throws spark. Reinstall the plug and wire and go on to the next one. If you get spark from all four plugs/coils than you should check to see if the motor is getting fuel. If your not getting spark you should check your fuses and relays.

For testing for fuel theres a few ways of doing it. First is to put the fuel pump relay back in. What I did was pull the fuel line going into the motor jumped the F/P connection in the diagnostic box or have someone crank the motor to see if there is fuel pressure.
