Help, emission problems

Hi, ive just recently got my first rx7, jdm type r , '92, thing is i cant get it to pass the emissons test, the cars not burning oil, has good compression, ect ect, i dont know if the cars been tuned at all, it does have twin apex air cleaners and a turbo timer, other than that ive not seen anything else, co2 was running at 5.50 it should be less than 0.30, hc was runing around 1800, should be less than 200, and the lamba was just scrapeing under the aloud limit, what can i do????, the exhaust is all standard except for the back box, is there any trick i can do to just lower it for the test, like turn fuel pressure down or something, any help would be appreciated, as i want to get and start using it

if it's a JDM type R, then it has none of the emission equipment that the US cars had. Look at your exhaust system and see if you have a catalytic converter, and look at your downpipe to see if it's got a pre-cat in it. If you don't have either, search the "for sale" section and pick at least the main cat, if not both and stick them on there for the testing, then if you pass swap back to the JDM parts (your car will run ritch because of less air volume going through the engine). also, change your spark plugs/wires. if those things don't work, keep the pre-cat and main cat on, and add (i think it's) denatured alcohol to your gas. alcohol burns cleaner than normal gasoline, and it has a higher octane level, so the gas that gets burnt with it will be burnt at a higher temperature, therefore causing a more complete burn, and it *should* lower your emissions readings. if this doesn't help, search the forum, once you figure out the search feature (it's kind of a pain in the ***) there is a wealth of knowledge on this website, probably more knowledge here than the designers at Mazda ever imagined.

EDIT: well, if you live in the UK, it may be harder for you to get your hands on US spec stuff...didn't read that in your sig before i posted. good luck
