Help! Does a silencer hinder performace
The hi-flo cat you guys see in my sig is really a gutted cat or basically a midpipe - got shafted off partstrader. Anyway Dave at KDR said that a silencer "won't" hinder performance. I've heard some different stories - I'd like to hear from people that actually have silencers and use them. Can a silencer really quiet down a dp, mp, N1 single with non-sequential set-up???

of course it will hinder performance. Though it mostly depends on the design of the silencer and muffler. On an N1, I don't think I've heard many stories of power robbing silencers..But you don't really need performance when you go to the grocery store, either, do you?

Of course it robs power. Anyone who says diffrently is a moron. Both HKS and XS Engineering have seen anywhere from 15-20 rwhp loss with a silencer in.
Also with the silencer some people cannot reach full boost or run rich.
My car was tuned for performance w/o the silencer. When i run the silencer in my car runs rich as hell sincethe boost curve gets all thrown off.
