it will help significantly if ducted properly
I recommend you relocate your battery anyway - but do it with a proper kit
this car is known to be fickle and have electric problems
you also want to grind down the ground bolt and weld the positive to the fuse box if possible

You mean a "V-Mount" setup. That's not the same as an SMIC.

SMIC setups generally don't require you to modify or replace the radiator. A V-Mount setup will require a modified (or different) radiator. Often you have to remove your A/C as well, depending on the kit configuration.

For most fmic setups the battery will have to be relocated as well, but dont fret. That's a simple job compared to installing the front mount. I had to do a fair bit of fabricating brackets to mount the intercooler but now it just bolts on.

And as mentioned above, i think you're confusing v mount with stock mount (smic)

The stock mount is just an aftermarket intercooler similar to the stock one that fits right in place where the stock one went.

For reference, here is a stock engine bay. Follow the pipe from the intake manifold and that takes you to the Stock intercooler.



Now here is an aftermarket smic setup. notice that the intercooler (although aftermarket) takes the exact location of the stock intercooler. (pulled this pic off 7club. If the owner is on here and wants me to take it off just let me know.)



And lastly, here is the v mount. The idea is that the radiator and intercooler form a "v" with the mouth opening to the front of the car, so both the rad and ic are getting direct airflow, maximizing cooling potential. (Yes this means that a v-mount setup requires a new rad as well).



Hope this helps. Also, there are usually some nice stock mounts (which i think is the way for you to go) in the for sale section of this site.

Long story short, It depends on use, and to give a fast answer:

Front mount = great for drag use.
V-mount = great for track use.

SMIC = great for street use. Especially on a budget or if your not good at customization/fabrication.

budget isnt to much of an issue , kinda a project car so money will come over time for it , and im pretty good with fabrication and such i saw the re amemiya one and loved it just not so much the price , i still wanted to keep the battery up front if i could but if i had to id move it to the trunk and again still have space on the side for the cone filters .

i did see on the rx7 store there was one for sale that was a better price and i guess just a generic rx7 store intercooler but looked really wide and didnt give room for the battery or air filters..

For most of the vmounts you''ll either need to relocate the battery, or get a small one like rotary extreme sells. For the intakes you can run something like the HKS RSR intakes which give you plenty of room. Plus they get rid of the rubber ribbed condom look lol. Have a look at the rotary extreme vmounts too, they're a bit pricey but are high quality vmounts that let you keep AC.

They are turned horizontal because there isnt room for the radiator to remain at a 45 deg angle.

I'm glad someone mentioned a vmount. This is known across the comunity to be superior. It is also known that FMIC's in hot climates cause issues for water temps. As far as the complaints of cost, you may have the wrong car my friend.....

I have a Rotary Extreme vmount and couldnt be happier with it. They have a kit for the twins. Ben is a great guy with extremely high quality products. This is my suggestion.

No no my friend, i DO have the right car for myself, i have no problem to pay a lot for Quality Products, please note that my FD has a Full RE Amemiya bodykit and you know how much they cost in Japan, and they're only made in Japan, plus there's shipping as i am living in Oman, not a domestic owner.

V mounts are great, but everyone has his taste, i don't like v mounts and i didn't know that they cost that expensive and it's because i don't have interest in them although they're great, i prefer the FMIC, but because i am living in a hot climate country, i can't go for FMIC, i'll have to go for SMIC.

I'll go for the RE Amemiya SMIC kit as i am an RE Amemiya fan but they don't have it in stock

i looked up in the For Sale section, got one used but has been sold already, so i'll wait till i find one.

I know Rotary Extreme, they're one of the Best

This is actually the RE-A SMIC (old version). I have the stock black duct on top, so it covered up the RE-A badge.

This one you post here is actually the NEW RE-A SMIC version, they are 1.5 and 2.0 version. (The photo on top is a 1.5 size, and the bottom one is the 2.0 size)
But I always heard the old version RE-A SMIC performs better than the new version RE-A SMIC. The New version RE-A SMIC won't fit stock air box as well..... need aftermarket intake set up to fit~

Yes, V-mounts are pricey, mostly because of the fabrication involved. Stock mounts can do well for what they are. If you are dead set on a SMIC, then I believe Pettit's is the best hands down. The kit is quality, largest core, and can support a single turbo in the future if you choose.
