Help: Center Iron "Nipple" Breather Stock Setup.

I'm trying to figure how the stock setup is supposed to look in terms of the catch can with the center iron nipple. As of right now I have it just open, can any one post a pic on how its supposed to routed stock. As of right now I just have it vented.

Are you talking about the tube for the oil dipstick?

The one you typically use for a catch can setup. It faces toward the firewall. I'll try and take a pic when I get home. I know how to routed to have an aftermarket catch can with a single turbo because of my FC but I'm trying to find out how it's supposed to be routed from factory on the FD

Have you verified that your FD engine actually has a vent on the middle iron like on an FC engine?

The stock PCV system is routed a lot differently on a 93-94 FD compared to an FC

I suppose you might have an engine that actually does have a middle iron nipple, but that's not common. On the FC the crankcase ventilation and evaporative emissions are tied together into the same plumbing. In the FD they are two separate systems; the charcoal canister vapors flow through the evaporative purge solenoid.

Arghx. Thanks for your efforts. Yeah it does have a nipple. I looked at another FD iron I have laying around and it doesn't have one... Doesn't make sense. I guess I'll try and cap it

I wouldn't cap it--it couldn't hurt to have that extra ventilation. Just run it to a catch can like you would on an FC.

I've seen some FD motors with the "third nipple" (huh-huh) for some weird reason. Really, it's SUPPOSED to be capped. Leaving it open will create an oil mess over time. It should be capped because there's not supposed to be a nipple there.

You could use it as an additional nipple for a catch can, but I don't really see a compelling reason to do so.

Most rubber caps will degrade and fail there. I think an EPDM rubber cap from McMaster-Carr should hold up.

Well known FD issues with crankcase pressure that FC's don't have as much...

yep, i've seen more than a handful of REW engines with the nipple on the center iron. generally they are mazda remans which could simply be coincidental.
