time has come to upgrade the fd's stereo where do i start? cant seem to find DIY on the subject?

I'm guessing "Do It Yourself".

I'd be really interested since the FD I just bought has some problems with the audio. The right speaker just started to go out yesterday and the rear speakers are barely audible. I need to take out the after market sound system and trace problems but I'm terrified to rip into the dash panels.
