I think we can all agree that the OE lights are basically garbage,
I also know there are a handful of aftermarket solutions to the problem, ie Origin Werks, ill give him that his solution he is using (time delay relay to stop the motor rotation part way) is an interesting solution however i think it looks really silly when its closing.
Ive been working to build a housing to hold Morimoto M LED 2.0 bulbs that would allow for a smooth flip up / down with minimal modification, everything is reversible (no cutting the frame) and the new flip up is only 3" up from the front bumper.
I am curious to hear what you guys would be looking for with a headlight solution, if i was to bring this from more than just a one off working prototype to a product is there anything else you would like to see from it other than just better light output and a smooth flip up / down
I've gone through three different sets of headlights and several different bulb setups (Knightsports, largus, oem, silverstar, xenon, led). The issue always seems to be the same, the brightness just isn't there compared to any of my other cars. Maybe it's that all three had the same reflector or housing material, not too sure.
My situation is unique, I have a 2j swap and can't use the popups like I really want to. The recurring theme seems to be brightness.
I've always liked the idea of keeping the rectangle headlights, but just like half the height... so something like this corvette kit, but instead of 3 small squares, just one long rectangle that's this height and width (sorta like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 headlights). Honestly, the 3 squares don't look bad too. I'm not a huge fan of the dual round projectors. I like the RE and knightsports for the nostalgia, but that's about it.
As far as the lighting themself, I think the rx7 lacks side of the road illumination, so it would be nice to get a wider beam... but I think that has more to do with how low the car is while getting lighting distance.
What is the current "best" solution for replacement winker headlights?
Built my own many moons ago...they work, but bet with the drastic advancements in lighting and packaging, it could be done in a much cleaner way by now.
Tied into the stock light switch, even allows the pop ups to power on when manually actuated separately or in tandem with the winkers.
Is there a LED kit out there with good optics?
