Headlights...for flip sake!!

I just recently took delivery of my RX7 from Japan...

The headlights will work ie the shine light, but they will not flip up and down??
I have searched on this but didnt find the exact problem I am having, so here it is!

Turning the headlights on/off has absolutely no effect on the up/down mechanism...if I manually retract the lights via the turning **** and then turn on the light the drivers side light will flip up (left side for you guys) but the passangers side does nothing!
Then, when I turn the lights off the drivers side will stay up and only way to get that one down again is manually (note that the passangers side light has done nothing at all anf the drivers side will only flip up but not down!!

WTF??

I have checked the retractor relay under the hood and got continuity, and there doesnt seem to be any fuses blown (could be wrong tho!)

Please!! This is really getting on my nerves, I have the car two weeks now and have got a lot of things sorted to date, this would be the final touch in getting the car as it should be!!

I have yet to see the lights on my fd flip up and down since I got it!! I am near suicidal!!

Can anyone help here???

same thing happened to my S13, when they won't retract, it has to do with your relay.

that was my S13 mind you, my guess would have to be...

make sure your electric motors are not burned out?..

and, for future reference:

WD40 all the hinges and work the up and down, and keep repeating it. Work for me.

Must say those lights do look very good and will keep in mind for the future...

Also, I think I wil need a little more than wd40 here, remember one of the lights will flip up but not down?? Why would this be....has anyone ever heard of this before?? And would one headlight being stuck hinder the others operation??

Also, I have a sneaky suspicion that the headlight that will do nothing is jammed somehow!!

Have you disconnected the plug going to the motors to see if you have power? If not power up via a jumper wire to see if it works, if not check your ground if not, power the motor directly if not, replace the motor, I suspect relays for the one going up but not down. Look at he wiring diagram for the lights & check ALL the connectors for dirty loose contacts.

What have you tried besides posting?
Is your relay good? Have you tried jumpering the relay? Is your motor good? Testing it with a supply from the battery?

Have you tried playing with the switch on the dash. If its pushed in then the lights won't go up or down when you turn the lights on/off. If that isn't the case then do what everyone else has posted and check for power at the light motors.

No mate absolutely nothing happens when the switch on the dash is pressed....and as described in my first post, after I have manually wound the lights down, the only thing that happens when I turn on the lights is that the drivers side light comes up.

Then that is it I am left with one light up and the other reamins down and no ammount of switch pressing (light switch or dash switch) can get the one that popped up back down..

Back to the manual **** again.....note that the passangers side light has done nothing during this process!!

Have you inspected the motor and wiring?

If one light works normally, I'd say that sounds like either a wiring problem or the motor's burned out.

I'd say, buy what YOU like,

none whatsoever actually,
do what YOU like!
like, don't get an RX-7 to impress your friends...
get an RX-7 because you like it, and you're passionate about it.

I'ono, just my thoughts at least, make your car into what you want,
not what you think people will like, is all I'm saying.

Got the headlights workin properly today,..im so happy!

It was actually a dual problem in that the passanger retractor motor had an internal wring prolem (found this out after sripping the motrdown!) so the retractor motor had to be replaced.
Then the lights would flip up allrite but not down!! Nightmare. I was using the wiring diagram for a US FD and mine is a JDM so even after I found the retractor relay box. There was no relay in it nor was there any wiring for a relay..Jesus christ...

Then took off the bottom of the dash cowling and popped of the side panel to try and get at the back of the overide switch...and found out it was disconnected...popped it back on and wholla...all works perfect now.

Thought I would share this incase anyone else encounters similar problems in the future...thanks for the help guys!

George.
