The factory service manual (available in a number of places) has full wiring diagrams that will answer any questions you have about wiring.

http://mazdarx7.iougs.com/fsm.shtml has the S4 manual, and if you search a bit, you can find the S5 manual floating around.

Please clarify a bit. You're throwing me (and maybe others) off by mixing the pop-up mechanism with ignition position and with lighting itself...I will explain what I mean.

I'm not clear if this is a North American Spec. car (CORBY is you location - I don't have a clue what that means), but the main lights should work independent of ignition switch position. The pop-up mechanism should also work independent of the ignition. The only thing that works together is when you turn the headlights on, and the lights pop up.

Are you saying the lights pop up with both ign. on and off? The lights themselves don't go into low-beam? If this is the case, I'd focus on the Lighting circuit itself and not the ignition or pop-up wiring. I hope I haven't confused you more!

I went and downloaded the wiring section of the FSM, but can't attach just the page you're looking for. You'll see what I was talking about above. Check out http://www.wankel.net/~krwright/cars/rx7/93_manual.htm and click on "Z-Wiring...."

P.S. Did a search on CORBY, it says England, so this wiring diagram may not (but probably will) work.

Question

Your confused!
Ok if the ignition is turned on the lights come up and the dim dip day time running lights are on. If you then turn on the head lights the main beam comes on but it wont switch to dip. If the ignition is off, the lights come up when the switch is opperated and will change beams correctly!
But on the pluss side the headlamp washer circuit works correctly!
Confused? you will be. Any one remember soap?
Also the car has two dim dip resistors on the inner wheel arch area and does not run a cpu control unit.
