i have a dp, high flow cat, and cat back, and ecu and i dont smell, but midpipes really do give out some nice smells, so jsut stick with a high flo cat and you will be happy, my girlfriend has yet to complain. well until last week when my motor died and she misses riding in the 7.

Stickgoat...
I'm a dental hygiene major. Can you imagine walking into a dental clinic and having the chick come over and stink like exhaust??? I mean, I'm going to be sitting practically on top of these people cleaning their teeth so that they can pay for all my mods. I dont exactly think that its professional for me to be less than a foot away and smelling like ***. I mean ****, if I'm out with the car guys and I stink like exhaust, I dont give a rat's ***. =)
Anyways, just depends on where your life is "OUTSIDE OF YOUR CAR."

i wouldn't worry about the smell of exhaust... i've got a DP and an Apexi GT (main cat still installed).... and the car smells fine, more like leather than exhaust.... it would never stink up your clothes like cigarettes from at a bar....
just keep a little lauder in the hygenist kit... in case there is an exhaust odor emergency...

There is a Black 93 Rx7 in Mobile Al. It has 30 something thousand miles on it. The ad says it is mint. They want 16K for it. By the way i dont know them or anything, I was there visiting my parents and looking throuh the paper i found two of them; the other was Montago Blue with 50 something thousandmiles on it...tan leather..5spd. they wanted 14 thousand for it. Dont know if that is too far for you or not...and I believe you said you wanted a 94..but the 30 something thousand miles is almost worth taking a 93..I dont think the price is bad at all on either one of them.
well good luck hunting one down
later
I can get the numbers if you are interested..well I hope i could, i would have to call my parents and get them to look.

I run a street port, DP and stock cat, and even with my turbos leaking a qt of oil/400mi into the intake I have no Problem w/ exhaust smells - The only odor problem I ever had with my fd was that the previous owner was a SMOKER and I had to scrub the leather about 10 times to get the smoke smell out. Now the interior justs smells like clean leather.

after driving my supra with dp (on supras this = dp+mp) i'd always smell like gas. in my fd with dp, i don't notice it at all. i'd guess that with any car as long as you have a cat on there, you'd be ok.

My FD smells like ****, expecially at startup and I don't have a midpipe. I do have an intake and cat-back and run the stock cpu. So it seems to run too rich when cold (black smoke). Also, many FD's suffer from many oil leaks which leak fumes into the cabin. I fixed my pan, then the front cover started to leak. Now oil all over the motor and the exhaust will make you stinky. I need to pull it all apart myself because I don't feel like having Mazda charge me $1200 to fix a $15 front cover gasket. The turbo oil return lines also tend to leak.
You need a good running FD without oil leaks not to get stinky...
PS. My totally stock FC was also stinky at startup, even with a new motor.

over rich Black smoke at startup can be due to leaky injectors or a bad AWS.

I've got HKS catback, downpipe, exhaust and don't smell any exhaust. I do smell burning oil from my leaking turbos But, I don't smell like it, just the car does.

My suggestions...
1) Walk by the FRONT of the FD when turned on
2) If you MUST remove something from the trunk, then make sure the engine is off
3) When at a standstill for a long period of time, try to have the windows up and the sunroof (if so equipped) closed.
4) Don't go to work without taking a shower after you just finished working on the FD
Follow these simple guidelines, and you should be ok
