I got my '93 with 76k miles on it and a new PFS engine with less than 10k on it for $8500. I put in another 3 grand into reliability upgrades and fixing broken plastic bits, etc. If you look hard enough you can find good deals. It took me 4 years to find mine though, it won't happen overnight. But with a 20k budget you should be able to make it happen and still have enough left over for some basic upgrades and the "just in case" fund.

12 grand is not enough for an RX-7 project. I would think more like 20K Minimum.
As stated above, buy a cheap early 90's civic for a few grand and then start looking for a nice roller.

As i said im not planning on doing all this overnite.. I plan on finding a Fd for about 5-6 k and planning on doing most of the work myself besides the engine rebuild which someone i know who has about 20 yrs experiance with rotarys would be able to do.

I dont understand how u guys say 20 grand minimum for a FD. Im sure its very easy to get to 20 grand if u dont spend ur money wisely, but if your someone like me im sure i could have a good running FD for about 12k.

My other point is that all i have right now its 12k to spend on the project, not a total of 12k for the complete project. Im sure 1/2 year down the road i will have more to spend on my fd weather its reliability mods or whatever it might need.

BTW thanks to those who have given me great pointers.

hey man good luck with your project...........as long as you have a daily driver and your patient " unlike me " 12k is plenty of cash to start....just start an fd project. i just started my venture and i already have over 10k planed to spend within the next year!!! i plan on keeping this car forever. so thats how people say this project will cost well over 20k. because most of us just dont want reliable.........we want mods as well!

Like we said, you are going to find an FD roller in good shape for only 5-6k, unless you are extremely lucky.

ONE PERSON said 20G minimum. An FD in good shape with a fresh GOOD rebuild or low miles, costs $15k+, depending on geographic area and other factors. A few people will always get lucky and get one cheaper, but I would lay money down that in those cases, the cars aren't really in as good a shape as the buyer claims.
