Exclamation Haunting Rx-7

Hi, I own a 97' series 7 Rx7, and I have a problem with it that I need a professional advise.

About a week ago I couldn't get hardly any boost and because of that primary turbo wasn't doing its job so I cleaned out all the vacuum hoses and intake pipes(Fujita Enginnering) and cleaned the filters(HKS & K&N). Now I get a boost that I had before but now I have a idle which constantly haunts when at rest and it is driving me nuts! So I went to the garage and checked my car about 2 days ago. They said the HKS air filter that I had was useless and it was flaking off. They said all the flakes gone into the manifold and maybe through the intercooler, in worst case much deeper and it needs to be cleaned out and they didn’t precisely gave me a quote on how much job it needs to be done. The question is that is it really the deposited stuff from the air filter that makes my car haunting or is it some kind of vacuum or air leaking problem? When I cleaned the hoses and pipes HKS air-filter didn’t seem too good which I agree with the guys in a garage but it wasn’t flaking off and the haunting started right after refitting all the hoses and pipes and air-filter. If I can get a advise or quote on my haunting Rx-7 it would be really pleased.

this might help, when mine did it, it would hunt at the light while idle. i was told to check my main cat and i had a highflow so i thought it would be fine, im not running the airpump so that is what killed my cat, but when i swapped out the main cat it was fine no more hunt, or try to swapp out your precat. hope this helps

im almost 100% sure you forgot to plug or crossed up a vaccum line. As for someone trying to rip you off by claiming they need to clean your i/c, stay away from that shop! If you really need to i'm more than sure you can find some place to blow compressed air through it for way less than theyre gonna say! Now think about it, how the hell would a piece of air filter harm anything??? and even if they did get in the intake path, wouldnt they have already gone through the motor?? change the filter, check the vaccum and reset the ecu...you might also want to play with the air adjust screw a little.

if it was your intercooler, then you can just take it off and put gas into it, and let it sit for 24 hours. This will break down any buildup in it, then when you pour it out, should be clean.

have a code check done . also i would be having a look at those pesky hoses around your lower manifold / solenoid area as this causes most of the problems with the gen 3 cars specially if anyone has had the upper manifold off

He took the piping off... reinstalled... now has a problem. I would check for leaks in the piping.
