Question Has anyone tried to fabricate thier own v-mount setup?

Just wondering if anyone has tried to fabricate thier own v-mount set up. How hard do you guys think it would be? i already have fluidine radiator and m2 bg intercooler, and was going to check into how hard it would be to fab somthing up. let me know your thoughts.

I think that's a proffesional only job. I heard it's expensive, too.

Its doable, it just takes time and lots of patience.
I say go for it, just get everything planed out before you even start.
Find ever piece that you think you will need and come up with an estimate of how much you think it will ultimately cost you.
Weigh the difference of just buying a drop in kit from Chuck against all the cost and time you have into it and make a decision.
Just keep in mind that Chuck makes a hell of a job for what he is charging.
I just had special needs so I did it myself
If you have the will to do it its very rewarding once your done and you can stand back and say I built that!
Good luck.

Here are some pics of mine

rotarypower101 - Looks good.

Satan's RX7 - Do you have access to a machine shop with bending tools and a TIG? This would help with making brackets and aluminum ducting.

Anyone tried putting the IC on the bottom?

Rotary power 101, wow, that looks like a great setup, thank you for posting some pictures. i have been looking into it but it does look like it would be too overwhelming for me to fabricate the parts myself, for as johnchabin said, i dont have access to a mill and drill press except when i am at school. Im sorry, but im not even familiar with chuck, could you give me some more info on his drop in kit?
Thanks,
Brad

HKS sells a v-mount kit that includes the IC only, I remember someone here has it and fabbed up a custom radiator setup to go with it.

Yup, found it: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=243932

Chuck is the owner of RotaryExtreme (www.rotaryextreme.com) and gives alot of support to the FD. You can view his VMount kits at http://www.rotaryextreme.com/vmountmain.html

There are two kits based on the approch you are taking with your vehicle.

Hey a Vmount would look F&F authentic in that beast Satans7!!
Maybe you could put a high temperature warning sticker on theIC to really go for that custom F&F look.

Just weight your options and long term goals or short term. To be honest with you, in Japan alone over 10 companies make V-mounts that are WELL known.

The community knows really only of the

HKS (now days)
and the Knightsports. But there are several other companies.

So just figure out what you want, do you want a new rad, how much you want to spend and then happy hunting.

rotarypower101, just out of curiosity, what are the dimensions of the intercooler that you used for your setup? Also, are you using the stock radiator or did you go with an aftermarket unit?
