Has anyone done an engine rebuild themselves???

Hi

I am planing on purchasing a RX7 3rd gen. I was just curious to see if anyone had attempted to do an engine rebuild themselves.

I live in the UK and i currently drive an Honda CRX VTEc which has been turbocharged. I do all the work on my car myself and i would like to service the RX7 and if necessary to the engine rebuild when it is time!!

any info will be appreciated

Cheers

Dale

If you have a good repair manual, the right tools, and patience then a rebuild is more than possible. I have never rebuilt a rotary. But from what Ive heard it is not that bad, pretty straight-forward.

A third gen would be quite a task, considering all the emmisions and vacuum lines. But if there is a will, there is a way!

There is a video out somewhere that walks you through a rebuild. I hear it is a great way to go if you are doing it yourself. Anyone know where the video is?

doing a rebuild yourself should be very cost effective and give you peace of mind since you know what has been done. The one problem is that IF the housings or rotors are not re-useable, it could become very expensive if those need to be replaced. Otherwise, misc. seals etc won't cost more than 1000 bucks US
