Has anybody disassembled the cooling unit under the dash?

Has anybody disassembled the cooling unit under the dash, on the interior side of the firewall? If so, could you please tell me how to go about doing it? I think my expansion valve for the a/c went out, and I might need to replace it. I am pretty efficient at repairing things, but have not messed with this unit yet. I just need some directions.

Thanks in advance!

Ok, I partially took apart the cover that houses the cooling unit under the dash, but not quite all the way. I'm still working on that. However, I now have another question. When taking off the expansion valve, will all of the freon leak out? If so, how do I keep a vaccuum in the system so that all of the freon will not leak out?

you need to have the system evacuated before you remove the tx valve and then re-gassed when its been replaced and the system sealed again

I don't even know how you got to expansion valve without opening up system. You need to disconnect 2 AC lines at firewall (in engine compartment) and remove glovebox. Then remove 2 nuts that hold box and pull box out (1 connector to be disconected)

I found rats nest in mine.
