In the past few months, I've noticed that under accelleration my FD drifts to the right, and when I lay off the gas the car comes back to the left. I took it to my mechanic last week. Originally he thought is was the upper control arm bushings. After taking it apart he found one bushing with a considerable amount of play, but the other was fine. After further investigation he found the sub frame to be cracked in several spots. It was welded and put back on the car. When I picked it up it drove straight once again, but the car still seems to have a "floating" feeling when I drive it. Also its starting to do the drift right under acceration and back to the left under decelleration. If anyone has seen this problem, I could really use some help. My FD hasn't been treating me so well lately. Since the motor was replaced in February, I've had to replace the alternator, replace the fuel dampner, auto tranny is on its way out, temp sensor probe or just the guage quit working, and its doing this wierd drifting thing. Its not been fun. Any suggestions will help. Thanks guys

 

you think maybe a tire aligment could be the key?

 

check your rear tire pressures, mine did this too once when i discovered that it was a difference of like 7psi- i would fill it up, problem solved, it would come back, turns out I had a slow leak- got that fixec for short term then got the wheels/tires in my avatar and the problem was solved for good-
AND NO i did not do any high-speed/ spirited driving with a patch on my rear tire- befor any of you say anything! LOL

I had the exact same problem when I put 1 new tire on the rear of my car. The difference in circumference between the new tire and the old tire on the other side apparently was enough to produce the steering effect you reported. It seems the Torsen LSD is very sensitive to differences in tire circumferences. I would do the easy stuff first. Check the tire pressures, as others have suggested. If they're even, then jack the car up and use a piece of string to measure the circumference of the tires. If they're different, that may be your problem. If they're not, then you'll have to move on to one of the other possibilities.

 

I have hit 125mph with a patch on the rear tire. I had my friends patch the tire at their work and they said it would hold, I trust their judgement. Still, I am going to have a new set of tires going on as soon as I get my rims powdercoated.
