well, this is one of those preference things, I guess - I've always thought the popups came up too far, and now that we have the technology to get the same beam pattern from a smaller source it is a nice mod to do...looks sweet

That would be retarded if they did.
Actually I was under the impression they stayed this way all of the time - that is why I said it looks idiotic.

If only up for lighting then it's not a big deal.

Uh the 90mm ones are the ones I have Fumachu, and they won't fit in the stock houseings, unless you make a custum bracket, and then you'll still need the DE's for highbeams cause nothing else will fit ....
It's a space issue... but I have the DE's are my foglights, and the 90mm ones are driving, and then I have 90mm highbeams (non HID) since I rarely if ever get to use them in LA. even @ 4am there's enough people out not to be able to use them but once in a great while...

Have you ever driven or rode in a miata? The first time I rode in my friends miata with the lights on I was shocked. It looked like two billboards on the hood (and it bugged me a lot). He joked about them being his "airbrakes."

Our lights pop up less than a lot of cars, but having them half height would be better yet.

Crosby: Making a bracket or jig of some kind is no problem for me. I agree that I don't even need a highbeam of any kind. I love being in So Cal

Maybe I will stick with buying the DE HID's in the future.

So you don't think it's possible to make dual 90mm non-HID fit in the stock housing at all?

Okay...so what your saying is that we can't fit two(2)90mm's in the stock location...where do you have the non-HID highbeams then. Sorry I'm a little confused...maybe I'm just mis-reading this.

Im in Glendale...I can meet up too one day if you guys want. Curious to see your set-ups.

Thanks

Does the knightsports' kit use 90 mm?

as a reference, the miata has a similar setup and here is how that kit looks:

No, the real knightsport kit uses IPF 4" driving lamps, as did the original RE Amemiya sleek light kit (until they came out with a set that uses H11 bulbs. Very shallow/thin housing, in comparison to the Hellas. Uses H3 fog lamp bulbs IIRC. Not a true (and legal) headlight pattern.

If the KS kits used 4 inch lights, and the 90mm hellas are ~ 3.54 inches
The hella 90 mm non-hid's dont' seem to be that deep (see picture)... I think i'm confused about the fitment issues.

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking...by the way the ones on Wael El-Dasher's car (I think the HID's and Xenon's) are much deeper than just the regular NON-HID's...I think we can pull this off.

By the way here are the specs:

The Knightsport kit completely replaces the stock FG (or whatever material it is) lamp frame with a metal frame that accomodates the IPF lights. The IPF lamps are only a couple inches deep.

With the stock 'FG' lamp frame, it tapers towards the rear, and you'll likely have issues with the longer (deeper) Hellas - unless you make a new frame like the Knightsports, or maybe hack up the stock frame (as it appears Wael did).

In other words, it's not a lens diameter problem - it's finding room in the area behind it.
