Actually, if you join the group buy, you will be number 26 and the price will go down to $450. I'm so glad that I found that group buy. I really love the OEM look of the 99 Spec, but I just don't like the plate holder, especially from the side. With Chuck's bumper, you will have the best of both worlds (strength of polyurethane and no plate holder ).

Rich, your car still looks awesome though. One of the cleanest VRs for sure.
Cool, thanks for the compliment man

Re: the 99 bumper w/out plate holder.....Ihor had a body shop shave the front plate off of his oem 99 front bumper, and i didnt like the way it looked at all. When going on cruises, if he was behind me I would look in the rearview and it looked like his FD was smiling at me. Definitely not the effect I am looking for in my FD

I know what you mean Rich. My FD looks like it's got it's mouth wide open when you look at it lol. But see the diff between me and you is, I'm not worried about how it looks, cuz no one will ever see my front end in their rear view. As for yours...you better start making your front end pretty... j/k haha

I've noticed this "smile effect" before with the 99 Spec bumper.
I'll just think of it as a sinister, sadistic smile.

Hm. Well, Mr. Stock Twin Turbo, I think you are writing checks with your mouth that your rear wheels can't cash

Sounds like a plan

I'm going to the track next Saturday for the second time ever. The first time the results were pathetic since the old Street Strip ACT took a ****. Hopefully, the Spec will hold up much better. Now, all I need are some sticky tires. I've already got a thread going in the Wheel/Tires section, and I think I'm leaning towards the new MT Drag Radials on stock rims.

Hey Max,

you can save some cash by modding your exisiting rebar to work with the larger combo lights. www.GothamRacing.com typically has the bumper skin, combo lights, and lip in stock.

take care,
Rich

Normally I would say 'no' but that pic on glassman's sig has me contemplating it. I kinda like it with the oem R1 wing.

Noooo...don't do it Rich!! Your first incling is almost ALWAYS right. The 99spec wing does NOT match the curves of the car at all. It totally messes up the rear... The very similar wing on the WRX, however, looks sooo hot, cuz that car is boxy.

Keep it simple and pretty...keep it stock

Wow. All the cars look great! Thanks for sharing the pics

I agree that the 99 OEM bumper is the only bumper I'd ever put on my car, and I can't wait until I can justify the expense.

Until then I'll be spending money on other non-cosmetic things for the car.

Thanks for the kind words.

Yeah, the time was right for the bumper. I was getting a paint job, and by selling my oem stuf and wheeling and dealing, I spend a grand total of $70 to make the change

Wow! That's some wheeling and dealing skill right there. I only wish we didn't have a mandatory front plate law here in VA, although I still haven't put my front plate on. I'd like to use the "RX-7" plate on the front of the 99 bumper when I get it too. We'll see how the cops treat me as is first I guess.

Oh, there is a mandatory front plate law here in NJ

At one point, all 4 of us were cruising (with zero front platage, hehe) and passed a cop. No problems. Then we went by the police station, with like 20 cop cars outside, many of them occupied. No problems. Guess the cops were too busy checkin' us out, lol.

Yea...Section8, I've passed by a lot of cops w/o my front tags, lots of cars do that on a regular basis. For starters, w/o a front tag, they can't tell if your car is registered in VA or not. So basically...as long as your car doesn't look like mine (lol ie, body kit etc etc), and you don't stare at the cop, they won't try and get behind you and nail you for no front plates.
