gunk on inside of oil filler cap?
Hi guys...
My engine has just been rebuilt w/street port and I have put aprox. 2000 kms on it. On the first oil change I noticed allot of reddish gunk on the inside of the oil filler cap. I presume this to be excess assemble oil residue.
On my second oil change I found sightly greenish/tan gunk on the inside of the oil filler cap.... "What is this? And is this normal?
Maybe coolant... but it has new O-rings... so I'm not sure...
any comments or suggestions.... jc.

I think it depends a lot on the oil you use. And I don't necessarily think that "bad" oils will create more gunk, but rather that it is a characteristic that may not be related to oil quality.
I switched from Havoline to Royal Purple (synthetic) and that stuff completely disappeared after the switch. I always had a little before, but the cap is clean now with the Royal Purple.
