GT35/40 or No more car payment...?

Well heres the problem, My stock turbos are putting quite a bit of oil into my intake & intercooler but they still boost well... I eventually want the GT35/40 kit and am completely ready for as far as back up mods and money, But I realised I owe about the same amount on my FD as it will cost to buy the GT35/40 kit... I was leaning towards just getting the turbo but now im kinda thinking no more car payment sounds pretty inviting...

What would you guys do ?

No car payment if you have a DD (don't drive it with the all that turbo mess). Paying interest sucks and the return in savings will add up when saving for the turbo.

It's such a relief not having a car payment.

If you have all the supporting mods for a single turbo upgrade, i would do it. this includes all fuel, intercooler, bov, ignition, and everything else. The way i feel is how often do you get a nice lump sum of money like that to do such an upgrade. you can always take out car loans, but not many banks will give you a loan to pay for a single turbo on your car. If you only owe about 4k left on your car, your not really paying too much in interest anyways. you are gonna buy the single turbo eventually, why not just do it now and enjoy it more.

there is no better feeling in an FD then to have a nice single turbo throwing you back in your seat.

i just had close to the same decision to make, but then my motor went out, so it was a no brainer. actually it was covered under warranty, so i had the choice of new motor and new twins and no car payment, or ported motor and a single, (paying the difference, and additional supporting mods) and still have the car payment. but whats the point in paying for a car that's like every other one. i'd rather have a small payment and a heavily modified car. of course if you have other cars (a dd) it definately helps too.

I would pay off the car now, and just keep an eye out in the f/s section (or shop around) in the meantime for a good deal.

Debt sucks

Pay off the car now, Im sure the car is fast enough as is and once you start modding, it never ends. So pay it off and use the extra monthly income for mods later on.

Thumbs up

Pay car off.

Wait on the single... it will cost more than you expect, especially to do it the correct way.

F.W.I.W. I have a single setup (35/40) and it has cost more than I anticipated.

Wylie, what kind of things cost you that you werent expecting, Im looking at about $3350 for the whole kit and say $200 to get retuned at a nearby shop... Heres my mods list:
Pettit large streetport (9k miles)
3mm apex seals
silicon coolant seal upgrades
1300cc sec. inj.
supra fuel pump
aftermarket FPR
Power FC with commander
Apexi AVC-R
Greddy FMIC
DP
MP
Apexi N1 CB
K&N Intake w/hardpipes
HKS Twin Power
HKS SSQV BOV
Koyo Radiator So I think with my supporting mods a big single is my next step, also a friend can sell me some 850cc primaries for like $100, What else should I plan for ?

Install Labor, tuning, motor rebuild if something goes wrong and you blow your motor, money to fix problems that crop up, money for replacement transmission / rear end if you kill yours from too much power. When making major changes to the car, you have to consider problems most likely will happen, and it all costs money to fix.

Pay it off. You won't regret it. If I had the cash it's the first thing I'd do.

Well your mods list supports a single kit. What clutch/ disc do you have?

My opinion still would be to pay it off.

Of course it comes down to what you want.

But I don't blame you either way you go.

Good luck

Pay it off, then go single.

Are you running a catch tank? Think might help keep some of the oil out of the I/C, as it sounds like your getting blow-by.

Pay it off, then save up for the mods. Mine's been paid off for years - makes it easier to afford/justify spending $$ on it.

I'd say pay it off too, you can probably pick some used stock twins up off of someone (myself included) for next to nothing to just hold you over till you are ready for the single.

Thats kind of what im leaning towards also, I use tha ACT street/strip clutch kit. I would be installing the turbo as I have quite a bit of experience from doing single kits and rebuilds on FC's and Ive had my motor out of the FD once, But I think I will just pay it off that way it will be at least a lil more realistic to actually drive only having to pay insurance and not car payment as well...
Cross my fingers that my twins last one more summer...

pay it off it will be better in the long run and the turbo will always be there and you can do that whenever you want to.

I vote pay it off too. You can always act like you are still paying the car payment and just make it your 'new turbo fund'

I was just wondering how much longer do you have to pay on your car? If its only like a year or less, then pay it off and save for the next year and get the turbo. But if you have to wait more then a year for the single turbo, you will be kicking your self for not having the single. What tends to happen when you dont have any bills is you spend more money and make more bills. If you keep yourself with a small bill every month it keeps your from making more debt.

Ive got a year and a half that I could pay off right now, I think thats what I'll do, I guess I can deal with oil spitting turbos for one more summer, One thing that bothers me the most is having to clean all the oil off my polished parts in front of my BOV everyday!
