greetings from the united kingdom

hello everyone,
my names susan and i live over the other side of the atlantic, our members club here does not seem quite as knowledgeable as you are over in the states, so i hope you guys may be able to help me,,,,......i recently bought my very own 3rd gen rx7...but it has been incredibly modified.at least by our standards....."godzilla" (the car) was running fine until just now.....when i had erratc idling and 3, 0.1 sec intermittent engine lights on.....i read some links on the apexi website and solved the idling problem.......but according to the apexi manual....my car is in danger of detonation.as this is the commander displying the intermittent engine lights indicating this........is this correct/....or are there any other reasons y my engine lights flash intermittently?.............i use a high octane fuel as instructed.........i hope u guys can advise me.....thanks in anticipation

hi Susan. I like to hang out here too, as these guys are way ahead of us when tuning rotaries.

Sounds like you have a similar issue to me. My knock level on the commander frequently goes over 100, which is generally considered bad. The engine light comes on when knock is detected over 60 if memory serves me right. However, this should be considered a guideline only, as the knock sensors vary in their readings.

I have disabled the knock warning from the commander, as I know my car is fine and not detonating. If you want to know how to do this, I can tell you. Your other alternative is to check the knock sensor to ensure that it is secured in place properly.

If in doubt, take it to a rotary specialist. Where in the UK are you?

The only 2 PFC reasons for the check engine light to flash are knock sensor values (0.1sec 3 times) or injector duty/MAP sensor reading (0.5sec).

When is this happening?

What was the idle problem/what did you do to fix it?

When you say high octane fuel do you mean SUL/Optimax or this plus some form of octane booster, or some sort of race fuel? Was the car mapped in the UK or Japan?

If it has just started doing this under WOT on your current tank of fuel odds are it is a bad tank. If the car has run fine up until now it is not a mapping issue.

thanks to rx-7ml.......shaq,,,,and robertio....3 replies and all from the uk..lol.....thanks for the information guys i am actuaaly based at junction 28 of the m1. i will contact the guys in cheshire to see if they can help too.......it is interesting to know that the engine light comes on at knock above 60..which i didnt know about.i did put a tank of 95 octane in by mistake and wonder if this has contributed to the problem?......it was mapped in japan and was a show car for a race engineering company..but i dont know if someone has been fiddling with the mapping before i bought it.does anyone have any rough settings for the apexi ratios etc?
the idlling was sorted by me acting on the commanders self learn feature for idling correction..10 mins running car with no air con on....10 mins running car with rear heater on.....then 10 mins running car with air con on....and boom....it levels the iddling back to normal.....
im hoping that its just a bad tank of fuel like robertio says....does the octane rating make that much difference>?
thanks again guys
susan

Unfortunately, the Apexi settings will very much depend on your mods.

The octane rating will make a huge difference on a modified car. Everyone I know will only put Optimax in, and if thats not around, Super Unleaded. Sounds like it is definately worth having the map looked at though, just to make sure it's been setup for UK fuel.
