Greddy Type R BOV owners: Need assistance

hey--I've researched and heard different arguments on how this blow off valve is supposed to sound. Some say it's supposed to be one big woosh, like every other BOV. Others argue that this one is supposed to make a fluttering sound. Normally, a fluttering sound is compressor surge, which is obviously not good.

Does anyone KNOW how this BOV is supposed to sound? I called Greddy, and the guy could barely speak english, let alone answer my question (and I'm more than tolerant). thanks in advance,

Mine just sounds like a regular BOV, no fluttering.

Jason,

Can you get new springs for those? I let the spring out all the way to soft, and it still does makes the noise.

no fluttering. Fluttering in a Type R BOV normally means that you have the super duper holding spring.

ok--so when it's fluttering (EVERY time it blows off), is it trashing my turbo?

and what's the advantage/disadvantage to the heavy spring?

What size hose are you running to it? And where are you running it from. Try and use the closest vacuum source and the biggest hose. Yes to much fluttering is bad for the turbo.

I have mine connected to an unused nipple right by the throttle body. I changed it from the stock location and I could tell the differnce with the shorter hose. I am using 3mm hosetechniqes, I think.

You only need the heavy spring if you cannot reach max boost with the soft spring.

Mine seemed to "flutter" when I was breaking in the motor and barely ever seeing any boost. Now it just lets out the air really fast...whatever that means.

You might have the lighter spring. On the top of the BOV there's an adjustment to make it softer. I normally street boost 15 psi and have the allen bolt appx. 1/2 inch up from the nut. That should put you where you need to be.

The harder spring is for those guys boosting much higher than what any FD would run on the street with pump gas.

So I should turn it all the way clockwise to tighten the spring? I had it all the way out (counter-clockwise), and it still made the fluttering noise. Is there any way to tell which spring it is by looking?
