I'd think that's the one, since it says "STD" (which I take to mean "standard") location, with no battery relocation necessary.

I used to have a Greddy smic, and I had called up Greddy in Irvine to ask if they offer the duct separately (Pettit discontined their coolcharge 2 & duct). The person told me that they do NOT make the i/c or duct anymore....
Some places do still show it on their websites, but I figure it's just left over stock or not updated.
I'm usually wrong tho

Hey Mfanto, I noticed that you've used ur greddy pipes. I have those also but the elbow and the pipe that comes after was way too long for them to fit onto smic. So I had to use the stock pipes, just like the picture GoRacer has posted.

Does greddy make different types of the pipes for their greddy smic? My greddy 3 piece pipes fit perfectly on my stock IC. Let me know whats up, I really want to use the elbow and the rest...

Yes, there are 2 types of Greddy pipes, for their smic, and the stocker. The only difference is the y-pipe to i/c is missing the lower bend. The greddy i/c endtank is pointed upwards already, which the stock plastic one is pointed towards the engine.

What you can do is just dremel off some of the pipe & file it down; then maybe have a welder put some beads on the end so it won't slip off. That pipe would ALWAYS pop off since the entank tapers a bit.

Oh i know about the difference in the pipe that comes after the y-pipe. Sorry I was not clear about my question. I had problem with the pipe that comes after the greddy elbow. That pipe was too long for it to fit. I was wondering if they had made a pipe that comes after the greddy elbow for the greddy smic. Seems like he has used it with no problem.

It comes with two replacement hard pipes for the rubber ones which mates the SMIC to the stock piping. The three peice kit is for for the stock IC but you can use the two peice kit (sell the 3rd S peice on y=pipe side) on the elbow side as I did. With the '99+ y-pipe it's a harder fit and I had to use stronger clamps.

So are you saying that I should be able to use the elbow and the pipe that comes after? I just couldnt doit. I tryed that but that made my smic to stand up high and the hood wouldn't close. You did really good of a job installing the smic with the greddy elbow and the pipe. I have no idea how you did it.

When I tried intalling it with greddy elbow, I ended up getting 6 cuts on my hands just trying to fit it.

After checking with GoRacer, the greddy elbow and the pipe after should fit. He suggests installing the pipe from the smic first and then place the greddy elbow, if that does not work try it reverse. I'm going to try that method out and see if they will fit or not.

I just tryed installing the smic with the greddy elbow already attached to the throttle. This may be the cause of why I could not make it fit.

here's the update for those of people who is planning to use the greddy elbow and the arm along with your greddy smic. Personally, I had to cut about 2in off of the arm pipe inorder for the smic to fit. After trimming down the pipe, installation was a snap*.

Why does my IC look different? I just bought a greddy IC and it looks different front all the other pics ive seen so far. All the greddy ICs ive seen posted have had 'sharp' tops whereas mine is very smooth and not pointy. Did I get the right IC'???

rx7girlTK, I have kOYO and the greddy smic. No problem with fitment.

rx-7addict, It does look little different from my smic. It maybe for a different car? I think greddy did make smic for other cars as well. On mine there was no hinges on the top of the smic like do you. Unless those hinges are add-ons and bolted onto the smic.

Nice... They changed part number from xxx50 to xxx53 or so. I was trying to by one new not long ago, but couldn't wait and got a used one (old style). I have never seen the new one before, heard that it may flow better .. different core design ..same size.

I meant to add that the angled top version of Greddy/Trust IS definitely the old style

Check out this site for some old comparisions between IC's: http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/intercoolers.html

Also make not that some makes of IC do have design changes through the years without size changes.

I prepared a comparision table when I was looking into which one to buy.

Cooling Charge Air Flow press drop Eff. @ Eff. @
Model Loc / feed fitment thick width height Area Area Volume @ 1.5 psi @10 psi 5 mph 20 mph
Stock smic -vertical 2.50 11.50 4.50 52 29 129

M2 small smic -vertical stock fit 3.00 11.50 4.50 52 35 155
Blitz smic -vertical stock fit 3.00 11.00 5.50 61 33 182

typ small core smic -vertical 3.50 11.55 6.60 76 40 267 320 2.2 38% 70%
SR smic -vertical ? 3.50 11.50 6.70 77 40 270
Pettit CC2 smic -vertical mod ducting 3.50 10.50 10.00 105 37 368
Greddy smic -vertical mod ducting 4.00 12.50 7.50 94 50 375

PFS smic -side feed heavy mod 3.50 10.40 10.50 109 37 382 410 1.25 43% 71%
M2 big smic -side feed heavy mod 3.50 12.60 11.50 145 40 507
ASP smic -side feed heavy mod 3.50 12.55 11.55 145 40 507 620 0.6 56% 86%
ASP race smic -side feed heavy mod 3.50 12.55 17.00 213 60 747 760 0.35 76% 88%
Pettit CC3 smic -side feed heavy mod 3.50 12.00 18.00 216 63 756

Greddy fmic -side feed front mount comp. 4.00 16.00 10.50 168 42 672

Sorted by Volume Cooling Area: gives idea of cooling capacity driving
Charge Area: gives idea of flow restriction / pressure drop
Total Volume: gives idea of heat sink / radiated cooling capacity in stop and go

Note: flow efficency differences due to design also effect performance

number order is thickness / width / height (inchs) .. Cooling Area (sq inch) / Charge Flow Area (sq inch) / Total Volume (cu inch)

Also based on some old tests (credentials ???) four IC cores were tested for Air Flow at 1.5 psi press drop, Pressure drop at 10 psi input, efficency at 5 mph and 20 mph.

Sorry for format lose

of the semi stock units .minor mods and or ducting

The Pettit Greddy and PFS are all about the same size +/- 2%

Based on sizing the Pettit and PFS should cool the best and the Greddy should flow the best. n Based on real world internal design has equal importance in heat transfer and flow resistriction. The Greddy duct is a pos, I have heard that the Pettit CC@ duct is a poor fit, but could be used with th Greddy. They did change their molds and based on photos looks like a good fit for new Pettits .. but now it doesn't fit the Greddy.

I went with Greddy after desiding I would make my own ducting anyways. Tripoint goes with Greddy .. which is a Strong endorsment.

The best bang for a near stock drop-in is the Blitz, but it is very hard to find and just a small inprovement.
