I have a custom lip in the pipeline that will tie in the stock bumper with one of these splitters, just waiting for some one to request it and pay.

Wow. The past few pages are REALLY awesome! Those splitters you've made afgmoto1978 are works of art! I love the adjustability in them.

How do you think they would hold up in an off-track excursion? The mounts all look strong, but what about the CF?

Testing my splitter extensively and it's held up pretty well after 20+ asphalt smacks (AutoX), a few offs at the track and a couple curb hits. The last curb hit took a small chunk out of the lip while it lifted the front wheels off the ground. LOL

 

Initial mock-up of chassis mount dual element rear wing assembly. Wing elements come from Ciro Design and the end plates are my design. Need to finish trimming and anodizing.

 

That's very cool. What's the deal with the little handles at the bottom/back of the end plate?

Would love to see more detail on the mounting inside the hatch.

 

They are reference tabs during bending process. I have already removed them.

I want to make a quick and easy front lip/splitter from corrugated plastic sign board. I want it to mount under the OEM R1 front lip, stick out ~6", and be secure enough for street driving and autox cone carnage. Anyone know if there is any good tutorial how to make and mount sure a lip? Or am I on my own. Thanks!

 

Honestly, sign board is likely not strong enough for a splitter application. Specifically one that will extend out 6". You're going to have to look more into the realm of closed cell urethane foam wrapped in fiberglass and somehow affixed to the frame, not just the bumper.

I've seen arrangements where (a slender) person can step on the front splitter and lift himself off the ground. That's not to say that it needs to be that strong, but if it deforms at speed it's likely not safe or highly effective.

 

use 3/8" UHMW & only have it protrude out 4" from your bumper/ lip.

make sure you build a stout frame to hang it under the car (frame mounted)

 

lol, I stand on mine and the front suspension compresses, I weight 250 lbs.

Following a jack/ramp incident, the front left of my FD was supported
by the splitter resting on the race ramp - no damage to anything.

Well, just my pride.

This was a splitter made by afgmoto1978.

We have used that splitter to level bumps in parking lots.

 

I'd love to see an example or rendering of this... might grease the skids.

don't hate me, this is few years old but was curious if there has been any improvements or changes since... been doing a lot of google and site searching about functional aero and most of it dies off early into the thread.

im building mostly for fun, partly for the track. Love some good functional DIY projects so ive been interest in the flat body design since i prefer the wingless look. also deciding if and what aftermarket body panels i want for the car.
