Gotham short-shifter "cup" bushing help

I had to replace the bushing at the END of my Gotham short-shifter, so I took off the four counter-sunked screws that hold the shifter/spring assembly and carefully lifted out the assembly.

Now I can't get the "cup" bushing (see attached picture) to seat low enough so the shifter seats low enough and allows me to engage all gears. In other words, if I just but it in, it will only go in third and fourth.

Anyone have a diagram or insight on this ?

Do I need to remove the ENTIRE shifter assembly block as well ?

TIA,
:-) neil

Take the entire shifter out first. Clean up the mating surfaces of all silicone. Make sure there is enough fluid in the top of the tranny, if not add uintill it comes up to the little cup the shifter ball snaps into. It sounds to me like you're not getting the plastic cup bushing to seat properly whenyou tighten down the shifter. Make sure the transmission is in neutral when you do this. You can tap on the top of the shifter handle with a mallet gently to help pup the bushing in but it shouldn't be that hard.

it is almost impossible to do with the shifter anywhere but neutral. i tried to install one with the shifter in 1st and had to install the stock one again to get it out of 1st.

I installed mine and have not had any problems shifting. Did you seat the bushing all the way? I remember that it felt as if I was going to break it when putting it on the gotham shifter.
Here is a link to my install. hope this helps.

Well, after trying for about 4-hours, I finally got it to work.

I left out one important detail:

I had replaced the END bushing with the metal Mazda Motorsport one, and it turns out that this bushing does NOT have the "inside" radius like the stock plastic one, hence it's horizontal/left-to-right movement is limited.

Thank goodness I purchased a stock plastic one as well as the metal one. All is now well.

In short, use ONLY the stock plastic end bushing with the Gotham short-shifter.
