Got to thinking about Billet Vacuum Tanks/Chambers

Just was sitting around thinking about the vacuum tanks/chambers that we have on the FD... and that they are prone to splitting over time. The Supra community is replete with billet/aluminum everything. So got me thinking, why hasn't anyone made billet or aluminum tanks to avoid the future fail points of these vacuum chambers?

Does anyone know of anyone making them?

because they would be wildly expensive and only for those utilizing the sequential system. there have been some welded together aluminum ones floating around but they're application is so minimal for a configuration that many move away from. its better as a thought than an actual ":product". the best course is someone that would want one to make it for themselves.

the FD vacuum tanks are rather robust. They don't fail often. Mine have 176k miles on them. Street and track.

Maybe I missed it too, but I wasn’t aware of many failures. Mine are original and still going strong.

I will add that I just snapped the attachment point on my center vacuum chamber a few weeks ago when I overtightened it to the UIM so I'll be replacing that with a spare that I think I have somewhere in my garage. If there was something cooler looking, I might be tempted to bling it up but this particular part hasn't really been a wear component.

Yeah, unless you actually broke something like a nipple off from handling, I don't think these really break. There was some sense that the plastic coolant overflow tanks and plastic radiator end caps would rupture or crack, but I'm not sure how much that ever really happened.

Oh the plastic radiator end tanks & plastic AST tanks DO & will fail over time, but that's because they are exposed to frequent and severe heat & pressure cycles; exposure to chemicals in the coolant may also be a factor. The visual "tell" that the plastic AST & radiator tanks are close to death is the plastic tends to change color from its brand new black color to a brownish-green hue.

Most of us seem to end up replacing the OEM plastic radiators & ASTs with aftermarket AL replacements (or delete the AST entirely) before they become a failure issue

The plastic tank are fairly cheap, you can probably hoard a few for a few bucks each as spare. They are still available from Mazda for not much like $50, so I wouldn't stress it. These type of stuff are usually the target of fab shop, high margin product with close to zero engineering time. I see why they target the Supra guys, I bet they sell for a lot

I would love a Titanium tank just for the bling factor but I've never personally seen a vacuum chamber fail unless it was dropped or somebody broke the nipple off

I built my own out of cheap catch cans and welded them to the abs bracket.

@Rick S That is a stupidly clean engine bay! Just need some of my carbon covers for the wheel wells.

a billet e-shaft would make more sense, and nobody on here likely ever considered or had one of those, let alone considered one …

You can't even see the vacuum canister. I felt like I'd spotted sasquatch the first time I had enough parts removed to actually see it.

Pressure chamber is a candidate for bling though. It's one of the first things that draws your eye in the engine bay.
