Well, I finally got this sucker on my car and I just wanted to say that it fits perfectly. I don't have any emissions/dyno/sound results, but as far as the fitment goes, this cat is top notch.
You mentioned that it uses the original heat sheild, where does it bolt on? I don't see it on any of your pictures. Also, does the air pump bung bolt onto the stock air tube?

. I gotta say that this thing is VERY nice and the construction is top notch (great welds, polished, original heat shield, solid converter core). It also has a solid air-pump tube if people want to keep the pump (I'm going to block it off). Overall, it makes my N-Tech look like it was made by an 8th grader. I wont be able to install it on my car for probably another 4-5 weeks (getting a new engine), so I have no idea about fitment or sound or emissions or anything. The customer service at SMB is very good - they may take a day or two to get back to you via email, but they do get back to you (for me they're on the other side of the world, but if they are close you can probably just call them). It took them about 3.5 weeks to finally ship it out, but I was in no hurry and they always answer my emails when I inquired about it. Also, they told me that it would take 2-3 weeks for shipping alone, so I guess they rushed it for me because it only took 6 days. Overall cost, shipped from Australia to Philly was just over $400 (my N-Tech cost that much with shipping). They included 2 metal gaskets and all new bolts for free. So I am very pleased
. A few people have requested pics - so here are a few.

It doesnt use the original heat shield. It uses its own very sexy and small heat shield (The bit with the SMB logo laser cutout.)
The cat is tiny in comparison to the original. Only around 6 inches long...
Mine (Which is the 3.5" pipe size with 4" cat) fits in wonderfully well. nice and snug under the body, would take around 30 minutes to install (And that includes putting car up on jack stands!)
The standard air pump pipe bolts on and the pipe to allow for the air pump pipe is positioned correctly from the factory.
If I am able to borrow a video camera from someone I will take some sound recordings of my system (The 3.5" full system with twin outlets {I got the first one! I asked for it as a special request...and then they started making them})
Very mellow sound..none of the tinny idle sound most big bore systems have...very deep, rich..and quiet at idle...and it SCREAMS at WOT above 5000rpms...

This may sound real weird, but this exhaust system on Sandy's ^^^ RX7 was the reason I bought my own FD !
Its sounds so sexual and goes that well that its hard not to fall in love with the FD, these exhaust components are first rate and make allot of power ! I know from tuning the above car.
I liked it so much I ordered my own SMB exhaust in full 3.5" but with SP exhaust tip to suit my original SP RX7. These are the boys responsible for the factory exhasut on the SP the ultimate RX7 which was spawned from dominant displays against all rivals at the famous Bathurst motor racing circuit in Australia. So impressive were these that Mazda Japan named a model of RX7 in tribute after the unbeaten run of sucsess.
Bit about SMB below and their long involvment with rotaries.

I have two of these SMB catalyzers left in stock (3") - brand new and below retail ($420 delivered - express freight, $410 for previous customers). PM me if anyone wants 'em.
I also have one installed on my car

you can also get a magnaflow 3 inch hiflocat, not metal, but it works great on my car.It has the AP tube and only weighed 6 lbs,and costs aroung 120.00 shipped. You need a muffler shop to weld some flanges on it.I think it cost me around 190.00 for all parts and labor.
